Biography of Thomas Edison Many when they think of Thomas Edison the first thing that pops up into their mind is that he is the man who invented the light bulb. The thing is, he didn’t really invent it. There was actually many people trying to create a way of light. He was just the first who successfully made it work and found a better way to do it. He had so many other projects and inventions. He actually had 1,093 license for his inventions. There is a lot to tell about Thomas Edison. He was a very intelligent child who grew up to be what we wanted to be. Then again, he never believed in failure. One of his famous quotes is “I have not failed. I’ve just found 10,000 ways that don’t

He is most known for the light bulb. Some of his other inventions include the talking doll, phonograph, and motion picture cameras. He was incredibly intelligent and made a lot of things come true. Although many were already working on trying to create another way to modernize their way of light. He found an efficient, and better way to create it. It took Thomas Edison and his team four years to make that happen. They had 85 customers in New York City, the number changed rapidly. Only one year later and they had 550 customers, almost 11,000 electric lights. This was the beginning to something new and it changed the way we live our lives …show more content…
It was a way to get a recording sound onto fragile wax figures. This was invented in 1877. Since the phonograph could record voice and music, this was a step closer to the talking doll. Thomas’s talking doll wasn’t the best thing in the world. It was taken off the shelves after a few weeks. The problem with the doll was the sound was not clearly. The nursery songs were barely recognized because of it’s terrible quality. These dolls now have become very rare and now very valuable. In 2012, a man payed $25,100 for one of Edison’s doll. The motion picture camera was another invention Thomas Edison is greatly known for. Not only did he invent the technology but also hundreds of short films. Actually in 1890 he pushed himself into making a viewing instrument which lead to the first silent film in 1904. He worked on the technology with William Dickenson from 1888 to 1893. The motion picture camera “Kinetograph” and the viewing instrument which was named “Kinetoscope” was patented in 1891. Thomas stopped working on this project by
He was also a businessman but mainly known as an the greatest American inventor. He created the light bulb during October 18, 1931. Also created many device like the motion picture camera. The light bulb was definitely was one of his greater inventions. They could be used in small spaces that need to be lit and was not toxic and was very easy and cheap to make and buy. Also had the best rendering of a 100 which is the best possible.
The famed American inventor rose to prominence in the late 19th century because of his successes, yes, but even he felt that these successes were the result of his many failures. He did not succeed in his work on one of his most famous inventions, the lightbulb, on his first try nor even on his hundred and first try. In fact, it took him more than 1,000 attempts to make the first incandescent bulb but, along the way, he learned quite a deal. As he himself said, "I did not fail a thousand times but instead succeeded in finding a thousand ways it would not work." Thus Edison demonstrated both in thought and action how instructive mistakes can
Some of his inventions include the photograph, the motion picture the electrographic vote recorder, and his most famous invention the light bulb. Thomas edison started working on his igea of a light bulb in 1878. He envisioned it as a oil and gas based light that would be longlasting that could be used indoors instead of having to use the outdoor light. He based his ideas on other people's inventions such as Henry Woodward and Mathew Evans. He found that there were many flaws with where light sources and planned on creating a whole different approach to building his light build that would fix all on the problems. Thomas Edison light bulb consisted of a carbon filament. It took him many tries before he successfully tested his lightbulb which lasted thirteen and a half hours. His carbon light bulb became a patent on November 4, 1879. Even though the light bulb was already patent Thomas Edison still found more ways to improve it. He discovered that carbonized bamboo filament could last 1,200 hours, so Edison decided to form the Edison Electric Light Company where he could publicly sell his new light bulbs and have access to new supplies where he can improve and manufacture his carbon light bulbs. Thomas edison created a whole new way of access to working and living environments that impacted history in a great
Thomas Alva Edison lived one of the most constructive live of any American ever born. According to (“Thomas Alva Edison Biography”) He held over 1,000 patents on inventions he created or claimed he created.
Thomas Edison was a businessman who invented the light bulb. He lived by his quote “ Genius is one percent inspiration
The movie camera was developed during the height of his career; sometime referred to as the Kinetoscope, an early motion picture device from the Greek word Kinesis, (CITE). In 1888, Thomas Edison began working on the Kinetoscope. Using the income from his technological inventions, Thomas Edison built the largest and most advanced laboratory at the time in West Orange, New Jersey. Edison and his staff of scientists and skilled craftsmen began working on the Kinetoscope. During the production of the Kinetoscope, Edison attended a lecture in Orange, New Jersey with photographer Edward Muybridge to discuss stop action photographs of animals in motion. Edison later invited Mr. Muybridge to his laboratory where Thomas Edison learned how to create the illusion of still life photos into
Thomas Edison is arguably one of the most prolific minds to ever walk the planet. There is no doubt that he was a genius when it came to innovation and that the world would not be the same place
Thomas Edison is also an inventor. He invented a lightbulb that banished the darkness. In the video it shows that Thomas Edison invented the lightbulb which was the first lightbulb. This shows that Thomas Edison invented something that changed the world by banishing the darkness, so just like the first telephone and the even better telephones changed the world by banishing the silence because people can now talk for hours without going anywhere. Also in the video, Thomas Edison invented something that not only changed the world but benefited all. This proves that the lightbulb is a product that lets everybody see in the dark. So now inventors try to invent something that would change the world and also benefits
“I find out what the world needs. Then I go ahead and try to invent it (Sullivan 5).” These are the word that Thomas Alva Edison lived his life by. This is why he is known as the greatest inventor in Americas history. Thomas was granted 1093 patents over his life time. Some of the main inventions that changed the world are the electric light bulb, phonograph and movie camera and projector and much more(Jenkins 1). Thomas Edison is well known for his invention of electricity but he has made many more contributions to society.
From this invention Edison started the Edison Speaking Phonograph Company in 1878. Edison had received $10,000 for the sales and manufacturing rights plus 20% of the profits from this company. The machine had a variety of uses including dictation, creating listening books, a sort of a “family record” which had precious recorded memories of the family like last words, teaching elocution, adn other uses as well
Thomas (Alva) Edison was one of America’s most important and famous inventors. Edison was born into a time and place where there wasn’t much technological advancements. His inventions helped a lot of things quickly change in the world. His inventions contributed to many inventions today such as the night light, movies, telephones, and records and CDs.
Thomas Edison is widely regarded as one of the most influential inventors and innovators of the Twentieth Century. Edison’s efforts ushered in a new era of technology; a world in which electricity would be harnessed and made to bow before man’s will. Walter Lippman wrote, “It is impossible to measure the importance of Edison by adding up the specific inventions with which his name is associated” (qtd. in Baldwin 409). Edison’s decades long career was a synergistic melding of his success as an inventor and his prowess as a promoter and businessman. He exemplified the ideals of intelligence married to hard work and perseverance. He forever changed the landscape of American invention and the limits of technological change (Baldwin 409).
Thomas Alva Edison is a very well-known American inventor. He invented about 1093 devices that influenced us greatly, such as light bulb, microphone, telephone receiver, universal stock ticker, phonograph, kinetoscope (used to view moving pictures), storage battery, electric pen, and mimeograph. Edison also improved many other existing devices as well. In the period from 1878 to 1880, Thomas Edison began serious research into developing a practical incandescent lamp. Edison and his associates worked on at least three thousand different theories to develop an efficient incandescent lamp. In 1878, Edison built his first high resistance incandescent electric light. Incandescent lamps make light by using electricity to heat a thin strip of material (called a filament) until it gets hot enough to glow. Many inventors had tried to perfect incandescent lamps to "sub-divide" electric light or make it smaller and weaker than it was in the existing arc lamps, which were too bright to be used for small spaces such as the rooms of a house.Edison's lamp would consist of a filament ho...

3) I would prefer a video links and more picture of the Thomas Edison’s inventions. Also I found myself search for more information about the motion picture camera that Thomas Edison invented. I feel those inventions was very interesting because right now everywhere we have electricity light bulbs, sound recorder, and picture camera…etc. Our society getting better because of those inventors and their
