I started working as a Web Content Writer in 2010, wherein we read and spin news for publishing. It took me a couple of months to learn that what we’re doing is actually article spinning and NOT content writing. After more than a year of working as an article spinner, I was hired by an SEO company. This is where I came across creating original, relevant and valuable content, as well as Content Marketing.
Content Marketing Defined
If you check the Internet, you’ll see various definitions of Content Marketing. But to put it simply, it is the process of disseminating your brand’s message across the World Wide Web to leverage your company’s online presence, attract new customers, and retain existing clients.
To those who don’t know, content is more than just a blog post. It could come in various forms such as images, videos, eBook, white paper or case studies, and even that short status update you post on Facebook. It is basically anything that you publish and share online.
Who Uses Content Marketing?
Nowadays, Content Marketing is used by various companies such as Microsoft, Cisco Systems, P&G, and many more. But you don’t need to be part of the Fortune 500 to have a corporate blog. This kind of marketing process is also developed and executed by small-businesses and one-man shops across the world.
In fact, Content Marketing Institute revealed in 2012 that 9 out of 10 B2B marketers—regardless of the company size and industry—are using Content Marketing to bring in their desired results. So if you think that your business doesn’t need this strategy, think again.

Looking from an SEO perspective, this is ideal if you want the search bots to continually index your site. In addition, content creation gives you and readers reason to share information on social media platforms. This makes you omnipresent on the Web—at least in your industry—that results to customer retention.
Before You Get Started
Although the main benefits of Content Marketing is all about lead generation (attracting your potential clients towards your brand’s products and services) and conversion (turning your audience into real customers), this is not a money-making machine. Just because you’re doing this strategy doesn’t guarantee you a steady stream of revenue. It is part of the process that, when done right, can help you achieve your business’ marketing goals.

... It really all depends on your target market. Marketing is always geared towards the customer. Without the customer, your business will not be successful.
In recent times, the broad nature of marketing has lead to acceptance of the following definition. “Marketing is the process of planning and executing the conception, pricing, promotion and distribution of ideas, goods and services to create exchanges that satisfy individual and organisational goals” (Czinkota et. al, 2000, pg. 8). Simply, modern marketing includes everything from conception to consumption of an idea.
The term ‘marketing’ is familiar to most people, and, for certain, most of society has heard about the word. However, despite the common use of the word, people may not realize what marketing involves. Some will say marketing relates to promotion, whereas in fact, marketing is more than this. Many major international companies are successful because of their effective marketing, and brands such as Coca-Cola, McDonalds and Apple are known throughout the world. Kotler (1999) has stated, “The good news is that marketing takes an hour to learn. The bad news is that it takes a lifetime to master.” So, what is marketing?
To help these businesses, a more appropriate or better marketing plan needs to be designed. Small business internet marketing services can help businesses develop and thrive in a highly competitive market. For the highest quality internet marketing services, hiring an online marketing company to design a customized internet marketing campaign may be advantageous for some businesses (EStartup business blog and contributors, 2010). Identifying the role that marketing plays in a successful business is demonstrated by the use of two examples, the importance of developing a marketing plan, and ethical and legal issues that surround marketing practices (EStartup business blog, 2010). To be a successful business, the owner of the business should use the marketing mix and the results of market research; having identified its key audience a company has to ensure a marketing mix is created that is targeted specifically to those people.
In today’s business world, Marketing Management faces many challenges including globalization, intense competition, ethics and sustainability, speed and responsiveness, the digital world and diversity (Daft, 2013, pp. 8-11). Out of all of these challenges though, I believe the most critical issue facing Marketing Management today is the digital world. The digital world issue is more critical than many other issues facing Marketing Management because management is dealing with a totally different type of customer than in the past. Customers nowadays are not the passive, take whatever they can get and like it group. No, they are very active and vocal about their likes and dislikes of products and services. Today because of social media and dealing with real-time communication, the customer drives the marketing/brand management of a company.
Content marketing is the creation and sharing of valuable content (or media) that is relevant to your target audience in order to attract and keep customers. It could be anything from a blog post on your website to an infographic hanging in your waiting room; or anything from a video demonstrating a popular technique to a Pinterest board you maintain with useful photos/links/information for your clients. The key is that it needs to be valuable to your clients and relevant for their lives and your business’ expertise.
Digital marketing is a growing field that “promotes products or brands via one or more forms of electronic media.” Examples of “advertising mediums that might be used as part of the digital marketing strategy of a business could include promotional efforts made via the Internet, social media, mobile phones and electronic billboards, as well as via digital and television and radio channels” (businessdictionary.com) This method of advertisement makes a digital marketing analyst necessary to help navigate a company through the proper marketing channels.
Marketing is how a company or organization promotes the service or product the company uses to create revenue. After closely reviewing the needs of the public in an area or the market and the product or service is revised to accommodate these needs, a marketing plan would be created and executed.

It is not secret that marketing plays one of the key roles of a successful business. As Phillip Kotler said: “Marketing is the science and art of exploring, creating, and delivering value to satisfy the needs of a target market at a profit. Marketing identifies unfulfilled needs and desires. It defines, measures and quantifies the size of the identified market and the profit potential”. Simply stated, marketing is everything you do to place your product or service in the hands of a potential customer.
According to the Handbook of Media Management and Economics, marketing is “the art and science of satisfying consumer needs.” Marketing campaigns are strategic plans that will allow a company to push their consumer into buying their product. A good campaign will identify the consumer, their consumer’s needs and desires, and what the consumer needs to experience to convince them the product will fulfill that need or desire. T...
