The author Ray Bradbury's short story There will Come Soft Rain can be construed into many interpretations, and the writer is well before his time when he wrote the short fiction. It's about how we are too reliant on the technology of our time. And also about how if we are not careful our technology will not only out live us but begin to control us so that it doesn't need us anymore. The story is also about a time when the technological advances of our time outlive the human race and can be read as just that, and nothing more. Although the more in-depth reader, he/she will find that the story is much more than just a few lines to pass the time and entertain. Case in point how many times have you looked at that smart phone you carry with you everywhere you go, in the past ten minutes. Just try to live without it for one day. This story is about how we need to get back to living without so much-tech. Or we will have desolate windswept land where in the walls of our pre-programmed homes. Does that sound like a life you want to live?
After a long day at work I'll walk into my house and say hello to my wife and only one child of my six will run from one end of the house, screaming at the top of her lungs, "Daddy, Daddy you're back". The rest of them are nosed down with the ever present warm blue glow of some type of device. I soon begin to wonder if they could give up the computer, tablet, and cell phone for just one day. I quickly co me to my conclusion, they would be devastated after one hour so I kick them all outside. They and all of their friends are too reliant on the technology at hand. Society can no longer contribute to the ever growing problem in today's tech-reliant people. The nation as a whole is becoming too dependent...

In Ray Bradbury’s " There Will Come Soft Rains, " he fabricates a story with two themes about the end of the world. The first theme is that humans are so reliant on technology, that it leads the destruction of the world, and the second theme is that a world without humans would be peaceful, however no one would be able to enjoy it. Bradbury uses literary devices, such as narrative structure, personnification, and pathos to effectively address human extinction. One aspect which illustrates how he portrays human extinction can be identified as narrative structure, he structured the story in a way that it slowly abolishes the facade of technological improvements made by people to reveal the devastation that technology can cause. The story started
Every one is scavenging for the next big gadget- the future is a standard that society strives to have in their grasp. However, Joel Achenbach a former humor columnist solves the mystery of the future in his article, “The Future is Now: it’s heading right at us, but we never see it coming” .he presents a sense of urgency describing that the future is not something that society needs to wait for it happens behind closed doors. He argues that the future is a fast pace entity that occurs all around us. Achenbach proves this point by sticking to his humorous style, with the use of witty allusions to Sci-Fi films.
Technology is an application of scientific knowledge. In my opinion Ray Bradbury’s is wrong about technology but he has a good idea that technology could take over our lives and impact us majorly. As in Ray Bradbury’s short stories, “There Will Come Soft Rains” and “The Veldt” throughout these short stories he described how technology could harm or be destructive to the world. However, in my opinion I disagree with Ray Bradbury’s opinion since with technology it makes our lives more efficient, entertains us and makes us safe.
Technology has grown in more ways than one, where it has reached the point of
The futuristic story begins by familiarizing the reader with this house that can do pretty much anything a normal family would do, such as cook, clean, and read. Every hour a mechanical voice box stops to announce the date, weather, or event that is happening at that particular time. “There Will Come Soft Rains” is arranged chronologically, giving the effect that everything is in order, but the more you read the more you realize it’s not. At a point in the story, the mechanical voice box recites a poem by Sara Teasdale, “There Will Come Soft Rains”, about how even after human extinction the nature and animals will still remain unaffected. Even though the house is no longer occupied by anybody it still continues to carry out its day to day activities with
A dependence on technology will not create a utopian society. Relying on technology for everything can create disruption of people’s bonds and love towards family members, disruption in people’s emotions and feelings and disruption to people physically.
Would that be possible to stay away from our technology’s devices for just a day? The answer for this question will bring a lot of negative answers, and of course if we ask this question in a survey, “NO” will be the winner of this survey. Talking about the use of technology reminded me one of the sources from my annotated bibliography by Amy Petersen, who is the Theatre and Media Arts Department Chair and Associate Professor in the College of Fine Arts and Communications at Brigham Young University. In her article which she wrote about the overuse of tech in our daily life and its affects, she said “If you would have told me a few years ago that I would feel completely lost without a cell phone, I never would have believed you. Now my iPhone is almost always within reach. My children likely believe that my most important possession is my MacBook Air, which is usually open and on whenever I am in the house. (“Jensen” par. 3)” Yes technology, internet, and cell phone became our best friends, and most of us can’t live without them.
Aldous Huxley, author of Brave New World, works in both unison and division with author Ray Bradbury, who wrote There Will Come Soft Rains. By comparing and contrasting these stories we are able to delegate how our current actions towards humanity and technology may, or even may not, affect the future Huxley and Bradbury feel strongly for. Both share a common goal to not only warn but help the reader reflect on the possible outcome of societal advancement.
Think about the future, even now children and young adults can 't live without their iPhones, iPads, consoles and other pieces of technology. However, it 's not only teens and children that are practically addicted to their tech, businessmen/woman and anyone that works for a business or a company, small or big, are on their computers,
In 1950, the world was still recovering from the effects of World War II. “There Will Come Soft Rains” was written by Ray Bradbury, and was published in 1950. Bradbury lived during the development and use of the atomic bombs. He uses this development of technology to drive his story.
Social networks, like Facebook or You Tube can keep someone updated with world events and even local events. It has become part of everyday life in which people can’t live without. But what lies beneath is the evil of how addictive technology can be. The above chart demonstrates that almost 60% of students use electronics more than two hours a day. This shows us that technology can be addictive. Jonathan Mandell’s article Are gadgets, and the Internet, actually addictive, recalls a time in April 2007 when BlackBerry users could not send or receive emails for 11 hours because of a glitch in the system. Many people reported this as a natural disaster (Mandell, 2007). People are relying on technology so much, that it is becoming a major problem in our society when it becomes temporary unavailable. Being able to plan your whole day on your smart phone and lock your front door to your house at the same time contributes to society laziness and dependency on technology. On the chart picture below I surveyed fellow ECPI Students on the question does technology make us lazy and or smatter and this was the results. From this pie chart it’s clearly shown that more than half of the students at ECPI agree that technology is making people lazy. Also the ratio of yes to no is about 6:1, certainly showing that the wrong effects of technology are starting to show up in our society. Choices people make about using their

The opinions of many people vary on technology and the effects it has on today’s society. Some say that it’s more beneficial than anything, others completely disagree, and some have mixed emotions. Would you rather read out of a book, or play online learning games with a possible risk of eye problems? It’s about taking matters into your own hands. 71% of people believe technology has improved their lives. 76% of people completely disagree by saying that technology creates a lazy society and that is distracting and corrupting. Daily life with technology is also another huge issue in society. According to a survey taken in January 2013, people feel their work productivity has dropped 8% in the last year. They also felt that their relationships with their family at home dropped 4% in the past year. The opinions vary, but they are needed to show how technology is affecting different people.

According to The Huffington Post, people are on their devices for, on average, about eleven hours and fifty-two minutes a day. That is almost half a day and a lot longer than most people sleep or work. People have not yet realized how they or their families are being affected by this constant use of technology. As a result of technology increasing, children are experiencing health problems, school issues, and social problems. First and foremost, health problems due to the increase in technology usage is becoming a bigger issue than one might think.
