1. Discuss some of the most salient themes and issues from your research regarding the selected cultural group.

Islam is one of the largest religions in the world. The word Islam means 'submission to the will of God' derived from the word 'Peace'. The Quran is a record of the exact words revealed by God through the Angel Gabriel to the Prophet Muhammad. It was memorized by Muhammad and then dictated to his Companions, and written down by scribes. The five pillars of Islam are the five duties that Allah instructs all Muslims to follow. Shahada: This is a profession of belief in the one true God. The declaration usually goes as follows: “There is no god but God and Muhammad is his prophet and servant.” Salat: Praying five time daily facing the direction of Mecca. Muslims must practice ablution before the prayers. Zakat: The giving of charity to the poor and needy. Sawm: Fasting during the month of Ramadan. Hajj: The pilgrimage …show more content…

The man's primary duty is to work to support the family. He makes the important family decisions. The woman is busy caring for the children and their home. She is respected by her husband and children. She looks after other relatives who reside in the home. She teaches the children to love Allah. Muslims believe that family is a foundation founded by God. Islam regards men and women to be equal, whereas the Quran verse says, ''And their Lord answered them: Verily, I will not allow the work of any worker, male or female, to be lost. You proceed from one another'' (3:195). Allah instructs Muslim children to honor, respect and obey their parents. ''Thy Lord has commanded that you worship none but him and you be kind to parents. If neither or both of them reach old age with thee, do not say to them (so much as) 'Uff!' nor chide them but address them in terms of honor, and out of kindness lower to them thy wing of humility and say, My Lord, have mercy on them as they cherished me in childhood''
