The Outsiders is a great novel for the topic emotions. Throughout the novel there are many signs of different emotions; Such as sad, happy, exciting,depressed,and nervous. There are many to choose from but, there are three major examples. The first major emotion was the happiest. There were several details in the book that expressed the happiest moments. One of the happiest moments was when Johnny and Ponyboy helped the children get out of the burning church. They had just got back from eating at Dairy Queen with Dally. There are several exciting moments in the novel also. The greasers were a group of teens that like to fight and pumped up their would have been a lot of excitement throughout them all. There were a lot of times when the greasers were excited. One major accomplishment to the greasers were when they beat the socs at the rumble. In the novel there were times when everyone was in this predicament at one time or another. One of the saddest moments for the greasers i would say was when Johnny had got burned and broke his back the fire at the church. Johnny was not doing well the doctors told him it was a matter of life or death. They said if he did live he would most likely not be able to walk again. Johnny was in critical condition they did not know if he would make it. Later Johnny did end up passing away. The greasers were shocked they were so sad. Johnny was like their little brother that had always followed them everywhere. Another sad event that took place in the novel was when Dally robbed the store and was shot by the police. Dally believed that he was the cause of Johnny's death and he could not take that feeling so he thought he would be better off
In S.E. Hinton’s novel The Outsiders Socs and Greasers are enemies. Society put them against each other and labeled them. Greasers are the poor, dirty, no-good kids that nobody wants around. Socs are stuck-up, perfect, rich kids who looks down on everybody. In the book, two boys- Johnny and Ponyboy- start some trouble with a couple of Socs, and Bob is killed. They have to run from the police, all while the tension between Greasers and Socs is thicker than ever. Throughout the novel, it explains how “things are rough all over”. The Greasers have it the worse because they feel emotions so harshly, they are constantly getting jumped by the Socs, and they only have each other because their families are broken.
Among the themes from The Outsiders is a story that has rivalry, personalities, coming together, and much more. For example, don’t give up on life, or even people can surprise you. These two themes are huge. Another huge theme is that step back and see the big pictures. There are so many other themes that go with the book it’s not just those. There are also lots of songs to go with the book. For example, “ God Gave Me You” by Blake Shelton. “ God Gave Me You” shows the theme, and Dally’s personality.
Once, a wise soul has spoken, “Sometimes adversity is what you need to face in order to become successful”. Adversity means having troubles and difficulties. It’s what you need to persevere through in order to do something you’ve wanted to do for a long time. If you want to pass that test, you’ve gotta conquer your fears and fight through all the troubles that arrive in front of you. Become your own hero. Greasers were the lowest among the society. The society had negative thoughts towards Greasers, because there were not many things people expected from the Greasers other than doing bad things such as stealing, having rumble, and other bad things that happened around the society. Not every Greaser does bad things, however, the Greasers took the blame for anything bad even if it was the Socs fault. The movie, The Outsiders, starts with the Curtis parents on their weekly, Saturday evening drive to the baking store to buy some ingredients for their boys’ favorite Sunday morning, breakfast treat: chocolate cake. The Curtis boys love their chocolate cake for Sunday breakfast not only because they love it, but also because they appreciate how hard their parents have to work to save the monies necessary for the morsels that put smiles on their faces!
In one scenario, Ponyboy shows his emotional side near the end of the book in the Greasers’ lot to relate to Cherry. Ponyboy says, “You can see it {the sunset} good from the East side, too” (Hinton 130). This makes it apparent that Ponyboy has strong emotions when he lets Cherry know that both groups are stereotyped also that no matter what group you are in you cannot buy everything, some things are owned equally. He gives them enough money and a gun and advises them to stay in an old abandoned church in another city until it is safe to do otherwise. To disguise themselves, they bleach and cut their hair, and to pass time, they read Gone With the Wind and play cards. After an anticipating week has passed, Dally comes with the news that there is to be a rumble between the Greasers and the Socs, and that Cherry Valance, a Soc, is now looking out for the Greasers. Dally explains that she said she will help them and testify that the Socs were drunk and looking for a fight and that the boys must have fought back in order to protect themselves. Literature allows the reader to experience a variety of conflicts and emotions of the characters in the plot or novel. In The Outsiders, Johnny faces various conflicts. Specifically, Johnny struggles with abusive, unloving parents, the fact that he never got a proper education, and that he was wanted for manslaughter. Thus, Johnny must learn that his life is precious.

They all slick back their hair with grease, and that’s where the name Greasers came from. Ponyboy Curtis is the main character in this story, and he has 2 brothers, one named Darry, and the other named Sodapop. One night Johnny and Ponyboy are out at the park, and a group of Socs, the nickname for Rich Kids, came by and started beating them up. One of them stuffed Ponyboy’s face into the fountain and tried to drown him, so Johnny stabbed him before he killed Ponyboy. The boy that he stabbed died, and so they went to a friend who gave them money and a gun to run away with. They ran away to an abandoned church, and one day Dallas, the friend who gave them the supplies came by and took them out to lunch, and when they returned the church was one fire. Johnny and Pony saved the kids inside, and a piece of wood fell on Johnny and he broke his back. He died in the hospital a few days later, and Dallas couldn’t take it so he robbed a grocery store and took out an unloaded gun when the police came, so they shot and killed him. Exposition: The gang is introduced and the rivalry between the Greasers and the Socs is shown. Complication: Johnny kills the Soc that almost drowned Ponyboy, and they must leave town Climax: Pony and Johnny go into the burning church to save the children that are inside; Dallas dies. Resolution: Everything goes back to normal, and Pony decides to write about his journey for his English essay.

He dazed off during classes and thought about the gang, mainly Johnny. While Dallas completely lost his mind when Johnny died. Dallas robbed a store to make sure the police followed him. He had made the bold decision to pull out his unloaded gun when he was surrounded by police officers. Dally new that once he pulled out his gun, his life was going to end. Dally had no reasons to stay alive since the only person he actually cared about passed away. Johnny spiritually gave Dally the courage and determination he needed to get through everyday when he was still alive. In other words, the loss and grief their group of Greasers underwent was what made all the boys make illogical decisions.
Johnny and Dally are both very contrasting characters in the book; however they do have their similarities. Also, they both look up to each other. In the novel, Johnny is the character that reflects sensitivity and weakness. Johnny is constantly beaten by his father and is ignored by his mother. He has lost many things in life that others may take for granted. A quote from the novel describes Johnny as a “dark puppy that has been kicked too many times and is lost in a crowd of strangers” on page fourteen. Johnny’s soft and delicate personality is evident in that statement, especially when he is referred to a “puppy”. The image of a puppy implies vulnerability, a reflection on Johnny’s personality. Whereas Johnny is the vulnerable spot in the Greasers, Dally is on the other hand, the exact opposite. Dally is cold-hearted and hard, and plays the character of the devil in the novel. A quote from the book describes Dally’s eyes as “blue, blazing ice, cold with the hatred of the whole world” on page fourteen.
