The Writing Process - In the Beginning The writing process has many different steps. Each step has unique attributes. People struggle with each of the different steps in the writing process. Some people have trouble thinking of what to write about, others have trouble editing and revising. Wrapping up the writing process with a strong conclusion can also be troublesome for many people. In this paper we will be discussing the first step in the writing process, what professional writers think about how to get started. We will be discussing the important first steps to make the beginning process of writing easier. Brainstorming can take many different forms. In the text, How To Write Anything, A Guide and Reference, John J. Ruszkiewicz and Jay T. Dolmage (2015) see brainstorming as an answer to a dilemma that many writers find themselves in. At times writers have a problem with narrowing down a topic. Brainstorming can be completed by writing down every possible topic, idea or facts. These thoughts can be written on paper, on sticky notes or even typed on a computer. The important aspect of this step is to be able to visualize all of the information. (Ruszkiewicz and Dolmage, 2015). “Freewriting” is a tool that can also be utilized. When freewriting, writers will just write on a topic nonstop for a period of time with no regard to how the writing is structured or formatted. Thirdly, online searches can be an effective method to brainstorm ideas. This third step is intended to get creative juices flowing and help to generate ideas for the writing project (Ruszkiewicz & Dolmage, 2015). There is so much more information to be gained on the other steps of the writing process. The writing process can be extremely over whelming too many. This is why it is incredibly important to take the adequate time in the early stages of the writing process to create a solid foundation. During the first stage of the writing process be sure to ask what should be written, the parameters of the writing project and know the audience that the project is being written for. Brainstorming the topic, creating an outline and freewriting all help to narrow down a topic and organize thoughts about the subject of the writing project. These steps will aid in creating a draft of the writing project. Drafting is one of the very important steps in the writing process. The first draft will be revised scores of times to create an interesting and successful finished product. These first steps in the writing process can lead to a solid and successful writing
