Project 1 The winter sport of skiing and snowboarding has a huge market base in South Lake Tahoe, California. Tahoe locals and tourists from all over the world come to South Lake Tahoe to ski/snowboard at their ski resorts. Visitors range from toddlers to elders, which makes the ski resorts very family friendly. Heavenly and Sierra at Tahoe are the main ski resorts in South Lake Tahoe, and they are always looking for ways to make their resorts better. Both Sierra at Tahoe and Heavenly are interested in the age people were when they first learned to ski/snowboard. This report shows the results of the survey that Sierra at Tahoe and Heavenly contracted out to be done. Their goal at the end of this investigation is to see what age a majority of people learned to ski/snowboard. Once Heavenly and Sierra at Tahoe receive their results, they will create/change their ski/snowboard instruction classes to better accommodate their visitors. For many Tahoe locals, the sport of skiing/snowboarding is a daily activity. During the winter, going to work in the morning, and then skiing/snowboarding in the afternoon is the norm. Locals produce a lot of business for Heavenly and Sierra at Tahoe so it made the most sense to survey people who live in Tahoe. The sampling technique used for this investigation was stratified sampling. Stratified sampling is when a researcher divides the population into different subgroups or strata, then randomly selects the final subjects proportionally from the different strata. The sampling technique, stratified sampling, was used for this investigation by first selecting a strata, which was gender. The next step was looking up the percentage of females living in SLT, and the percentage of males living in SLT. People are learning to ski/snowboard on average between the ages of 5-8, so both ski resorts should have multiple classes to accommodate the number of people wanting to learn to ski/snowboard. The winter sport of skiing/ snowboarding has a huge market, so ski resorts shouldn’t worry about people not wanting to learn how to ski/snowboard. Further studies that would deepen this investigation would be asking how many times someone ski/snowboards in a week, month, year, etc. This would help the ski resorts determine the amount of business they should expect based on the day or month. This further study would also help Heavenly and Sierra at Tahoe determine how many ski passes they should offer each year. Works Cited (n.d.). Retrieved April 30, 2016, from
