As the quote above says throughout the entire history of humanity there has been wars, from the first brawls of cavemen over food to the latest war of the Middle East. Some would say that the only thing more persistent than war itself is death, however war is usually the main cause of death on our planet. Currently in the United States we do not have a required draft, we do require every man of at least the age of 18 to sign up for the selective service, should the draft ever be reinstated. In modern day America unless you go to a private school you are provided with a free education by the government. This is saying that from about the age of six or seven to the age of eighteen to nineteen you are provided with an educations designed to shape you for the rest of your life, for free. This is a huge concept, of which many other countries citizens are unable to experience. It’s not uncommon for citizens in other countries to not even get an education, unless their families are very wealthy; or it could be that only one child per family is able to go to school. In America it’s actually against the law for a child to not attend school. Not only does our government provide us with a free education, but they also protect us by having clean drinking water and healthy food for us to consume, once again a thing I believe most Americans take for granted. These as well as many other example of what our great nation does for us are prime examples of why I believe that everyone has a responsibility to their country and for that reason I believe the U.S. should reinstate the draft. When you think about it the draft could be set up to only require two years of service per person, a small fee for the almost twenty years of free education they provided for you. I understand that there is always the possibility that you will not come home from serving your country, but if everyone was too afraid to join we wouldn’t have any military in the first place. I realize that as of right now based on our current standards and past participation our military size is at an all-time high, however with the rise in terror world-wide I believe that our military forces can never be too big. If our country were to get involved in another major war, which is very likely to happen we would find that we might be out matched and an army that is
