I stared listlessly at the screen, almost absently before my mind began to wander. Sorting through the facts and endless pathways of how all of this could have occurred. The virus came from this building, that much was for sure. The question that now plagued my mind was how that was possible. It had to have been an inside job; someone down in labs must have been the culprit. I had been privy to a few classified details concerning several experiments the company was running. Enough to cover up expense details so that when it came down the pipeline no one knew exactly was being purchased or sold. Shaking out of my stupor I managed to say, “At my office…” “Of course you are.” His tone was almost angry taking me by surprise; Kane had never been one to be stern. He was a rather easygoing man, always a smile or a laugh. An at ease sort of temperament. He and Marley were my dearest friends. They suited my life well. My busy life. Most people did not last long in my close acquaintance. Yet, here they were. Even now. While my dating life was non-existent, Kane and Marley had been together for years. It had been more of an on again, off again type relationship with their living together amicably. More like roommates; he had a rent-controlled apartment that was unusually spacious in the city.
