Values are very personal and something that many people hold close to their heart. The type of background and up bringing one has really helps shape how a person prioritizes their values. Everyone is different and everyone has a story as to why they share their values. A big difference between moral values and non moral values is that many times moral values are set within someone the minute they are capable of understanding what is right and what is wrong. When children are around the age of 2-3 parents place a firm foundation on that child 's moral values. Moral values are then continuously reenforced. Being dishonest may hurt the other person. For instance someone dealing with a dishonest person may begin to feel as if everyone is also being dishonest. With honesty comes trust. Being honest means that people can ask anything and they feel like they can confide in that answer. Honesty is a doorway. Honesty brings admiration. I feel like at work honesty has brought me to the level I am at now. People trusted me with greater responsibility because they knew I would do what is required in the fairest way fit. Being dishonest only makes other people feel unsure to ask. I like to be the person that people can come up and talk to freely and feel as if they truly learned or have taken something from that conversation. Honesty is the value of mine I feel will be significant as I continue into the criminal justice system. One point we spoke in class is how in criminal justice, all we have is our word. One dishonest mistake and our credibility is lost. Honesty is significant because at the moment there is so much public distrust within the system. Law enforcement is under much scrutiny. A spark in justice has ignited. People are feeling as if they are being lied to. The black lives matter or all lives matter has created a division and has alienated the citizens from the system. My ultimate goal after graduation is to be a police officer. Being a minority and expressing your interest in being an officer creates some negativity. I 'm tired of getting on social media and seeing comments such as "all officers are murderers". It 's very discouraging. I 've seen and heard so much negativity in the past months. This is why I believe values such as honesty are very important. In order to have people believe in the criminal justice system again there needs to be honesty. Another point in class we made is that in the criminal justice field we hold people 's lives in the palm of our hands. I believe that values are taught and learned at an early age. If the teaching is successful, as it was in my case, the student should hold true to the values that he or she was raised with.
