Value of the Employee
Most people liked to be valued by people that they care about. The same works with employee/employer relationships. “Employees who feel valued and appreciated by their leaders are infinitely more likely to go above and beyond for the company and hold themselves accountable for their part of a project. Most importantly, they will be happier in their roles. If leaders disregard the importance of connecting with employees, they lose the benefit of a dedicated, long-term team.” (forbes) The important thing that needs to be looked at is how the leader can still connect to the employee and while still maintaining a position of authority.
#1: Failing to Respond to Employee Emails
As we know leaders are busy managing multiple people and tasks. Employees use email as way of communication as to get the answers they need in a simple and effect manner as well as a way for tracking purposes for future reference. Due to the nature of the business I am in, it is pennant to be able to have constant communication with our manager/ leader because there are situations that arise that need attention within a certain time period. My current team has recently been going through management changes. Before, my old manager left the company there were many discussions by my peers on the way “Leslie” used to communicate. Since “Leslie” was always in meetings and/or working on various projects she was rarely at her desk so, we would resort to communicate by email or instant messaging hoping for a quick response. “Leslie” would rarely answer emails or instant message in a timely fashion therefore making us to make the best decision we thought possible even if it was the right one. There were also instances that we as a team had never r...

...ke a wage cut to ensure they avoid possible being unemployed for any reason. “The emotional toll has been heavy, however. American workers are suffering a massive case of burnout, reporting high levels of stress at work and extreme fatigue, researchers say. More than a third of employees say they are handling the stress in one of the worst way possible by working harder.” (cbsnews) Companies are now working towards work/life balance in order for their employees the freedom to balance their home life and still be able to keep producing a productive product for their work.
Conclusion
For true leader to be successful these leaders should be mindful to avoid any of the above “pitfalls”. By avoiding these “pitfalls” makes for a leader that will have a positive and productive team that will not only want to ensure the success of the team but the organization as a whole.
...y, a leader cannot control every aspect of the team or project working on, ergo an effective leader must understand this and adapt their leadership mind to different scenarios. Even the most inspired and passionate team still experiences rough patches no matter what the leader does. The best thing an effective leader can do in this situation is to remain professional and keep a tranquil attitude.
“Before you are a leader, success is all about growing yourself. When you become a leader, success is all about growing others” (Welch). Leadership is inspiring others to learn more, do more, and become more. Ineffective fail to possess certain characteristics which effective leaders do. Willingness to help others, selflessness, and strictness; these are the qualities of a both good and effective leader. Without these qualities, leadership would fail and being a leader would mean nothing.
Managers know the importance of having positive relationships with their employees. It boosts the company’s goals while the lack of any relationship with the workers may lead to losses in the business. Most managers rarely know that they are looked up to by many employees and, as such, should be careful with the actions they take. Lee b. Bolman & Terrence E. Deal, the authors of the book The Reframing Organizations, point out that the kind of measures taken in the business influences the employees acts and thoughts. In particular, this book gives insight to managers on how to relate to their subordinates. The discussion is carried out on the three parts of the book that highlight the missteps taken by managers as they try to improve their businesses.
An effective leader must be able to incorporate positive change with their vision in addition guide employees efforts along with the company’s mission with inspiration. Without great leadership along with management the existence of followership, trust and success will not exist. Before any organization can achieve success, there must be an established effective leadership in place.
Many definitions exist on what leadership is. Despite the many differences in definitions, they all describe the leader as someone who influences others. Leaders transform individuals around them allowing them to work to their full potential. In order for a leader to be successful they must be knowledgeable, self- confident, and effective communicators. These characteristics will create a positive workplace environment that results in an increase in productivity. Leadership is not defined by titles or salary. Leaders must acquire their skills and continue to improve on them through learning. Good leaders provide a vision and help motivate others to make that vision happen. The leader must be effective and successful in creating a strong institution.
Leaders who fail to provide true and proper command, inspiration, motivation, and strategic vision for their company leave a battered organization. An incompetent or dysfunctional leadership team misleads others which results in poor performance for individuals and organizations, which leads to a failed business. leadership theories all help leaders to lead followers in a productive way preventing this increasing effectiveness and give leaders ways to help followers with paths to follow to reach goals for both organization outcomes as well as individuals.
I have observed throughout my years of working in different corporate settings, that a successful leader is someone who is innovative, a person who takes risk, empowers subordinates, and encompass the ability to inspire others to strive to be excellent. Robbins and Judge (2011) claims, “...
A leader who motivates and inspires passion in a team while streamlining the operations of their department is truly an effective leader. The opposite of this would be a leader who instills anxiety and fear by commanding, while expecting high performance from their direct reports. We all have a choice in the leader we want to be and from this class, have been provided the tools to build a positive path for this journey. As a new leader, my ultimate goal is to create more leaders to share this journey, not just to have more followers.
A good leader has to be self-aware and comfortable with self. In order to be a successful leader first you have to evaluate your own flaws and be able to learn and grow from them. A lot of leaders aren`t aware of their flaws this is called a blind spot. The blind spot prevent leaders from perfecting their task. Their mindset have to be open and understanding. However a lot of leaders aren’t this way. They have to have a balance between emotions and the company expectations.
Great leaders are, at their core, great problem-solvers. They take proactive measures to avoid conflicts and address issues when they arise. There are four critical ways to be a great problem solver as a leader. Communicate transparenly, when a problem arises it is important that everyone feel like they have the ability to express opinions and concerns freely. Break down silos, having an open culture and decreased competition will decres office issues. Foster and open-minded culter, having positive people with an open mind while working together will help in solving issues. Lastly, always having a plan of action, the worst way to approach an issue is without a plan. Ensuring to take time to step back and assess every
In my opinion, a true leader looks out for and motivates his subordinates. As a result, the leader gets the very best from his workers. A leader is not afraid of conflict because a leader handles conflict professionally and works to find a solution that benefits the team. A great leader makes decisions that are in the best interest of the group. A great leader keeps the lines of communication open because a great leader understands that he does not know everything.
Although there are many outstanding, albeit necessary qualities of a good leader, it is the leader’s beliefs in which greatness is given its first breath, fostered by action, and spread throughout the institution. A great leader believes in encouraging, not destroying; in setting the precedence instead of yielding to prominence ; in collaboration, not division; in giving, not taking; and in having high standards and volunteering to be the first of many to be held to them. A great leader does not take advantage of the people being lead, but instead, creates an advantage for the people by giving them the opportunities to lead. Only when people take ownership of an institution will passion be cultivated, action be taken, and greatness be achieved.
One very important aspect of a great leader is to lead by example. Any person in a position to guide others cannot ask the team to do one thing and act in the complete opposite way. This is a sure way to show that the leader has a need to show power and quickly loose respect from those who should be learning from him or her. Being a role model is importan...
Leadership is the action of leading a group of people or an organization. Leadership is leading a group of people or company to reach a result or further and the organization. A leader is supposed to be an example of how all employees are expected to act and what they should be striving for. Good leaders also don’t use their position within a company to take advantage of the company and its employees. A good leader is supposed to be able to perform their job with high standards, efficiency, and honor. However, for every good leader, there are bad leaders and the worse the leader the more detrimental he or she becomes to employees and the company they run. Poor leadership skills can ultimately ruin a company 's chance of success. The attitude
