Judaism, Christianity, and Islam are Abrahamic religions that recognize Abraham as one of the prophets of God. This shows that they share similar roots with each other as their history is intertwined together. Each religion also has a sacred holy book that informs followers how to live their life in accordance to God. Due to this, they are all referred to as ‘People of the Book’ because they were given revelations from God. As stated in the Qur’an from Al- 'Ankabut Chapter twenty-nine verse forty-six, "We [Muslims] believe in that which has been sent down to us and has been sent down to you [Jews and Christians].
While most westerners know the story of Joseph as a passage from the end of the book of Genesis in the Bible or the Torah, understanding the story and its intricacies in sura 12 of the Qur’an proves equally important. Joseph’s story in Genesis emphasizes his personal abilities and God rewarding him and his people’s loyalty and faith amidst hardship. The Qur’an takes the same plot and enforces the theme of monotheism and Joseph’s prophetic role in its spread. The Qur’an’s interpretation serves as a more influential religious text in the context of its body of belief, whereas the Biblical story of Joseph, with its thematically intriguing story line and embellishments, comparatively serves a greater literary purpose. By reading and understanding both passages, one can gain a clearer knowledge of what is regarded as important to the Jewish, Christian, and Islamic faiths.

Christianity’s sacred texts and writings, such as the bible (conveyed as the word of God), are continually studied/interpreted throughout generations. Judaism, a monotheistic religion, so as Christianity and Islam, originally came from the Hebrews. The Hebrews believed that God was their special protector and was everything, the most powerful, and present everywhere. Like the other two religions, Judaism also has a holy book called the Torah. The Torah is a sacred recording of laws and events in Jewish history.
