Selection Tools For Hiring

The use of good selection tools for a good selection decision, will make all the difference in the kind of employee you hire. That is because of how important it is to choose the right method of selection for the position that needs filling. With a selection method it will reduce the number of applicants applying for the position, and increase the number of candidates with the right credentials and qualifications.

There are different selection methods for hiring in different fields of work. For instance, one of the selection tools you might considered while hiring personnel and/or staff for a supermarket would probably start with the, completing of the application. Being able to fill out an application shows a lot about someone. It enables you to see if the individual can read, and understand English. This would be a plus since, just about everything in an 'American' supermarket is advertised in English. Also, if the individual is intelligent enough to fill out the application, their intelligent enough to work in a supermarket. A second type of selection tool that might be used would be to conduct an interview. By giving an interview you get to meet the applicant, see their appearance, and make your impression. With thoughts of; Is this position right for this individual? Or Is this individual right for this position? Conducting an interview is also the best time to ask about the information on the application and any other questions you may have. The third selection tool you might consider is asking for a resume, and/or collecting and checking reference. I speak of resumes' due to the number of older/mature, work experienced individuals whom work in supermarkets today. (also, allow you to see work length and history) By collecting and checking references you ensure the staff and yourself of the type of person the applicant is. If your lucky, one might tell you something about the applicant you did not know. It is a good selection tool to get to know the applicants better.

I really think the combination interviewing, collecting and checking references is the best selection tool because it allows you to meet the person face-to-face. You get to see if the person is a well-groomed individual, or someone who do not care about their appearance at all; you also get to see their enthusiasm about the job.
