To begin, I believe that one out of the three reasons I have come up with as to why some countries win more medals than others is that countries can spend more money on certain Olympics. The United States might spend more money on the Summer Olympics than the do the Winter. Therefore, the results are going to be different because the athletes would not have the same training detail or accommodations. The next reason I came up with, is that the Winter Olympics are rather specific on sport types. Some countries more than likely do not offer the same athletic standards for winter Olympics, they may not have the same advantage with experience coaches as some other countries do. The third reason, is that some countries might choose which Olympic event they focus on more. Russia came in first in the Winter Olympics but came in fourth through the Summer Olympics. The United States came in first for the Summer Olympics but fourth for the Winter Olympics. How I would see if the US pays more attention to the Summer than Winter is through observation and data. I would begin to research the type of trainers that train the athletes; pay wages, experience, and metals. If those three things are significantly different than the results are going to be different as well. Next, I would look at media coverage, how much coverage does the Winter Olympics get vs Summer Olympics. I can think of a lot of different athletes and sports for the Summer Olympics but almost none for the Winter Olympics. Finally, I would look at who was going to the Summer Olympics vs the Winter Olympics; age, gender, training level, amount of medals already won. These would all factor into if a country picks which Olympic event they should care about most. I would do these again, for the top five countries, and see if my theory proves
