Organizational Structure
The United States Navy is one of numerous organizations of the military and has been since October 1775. The U.S. Naval has the world's biggest carrier fleet and continues to dominate all dangers pointed at the United States along with the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, and Marines. I will depict and assess the structure and function inside the United States Navy, contrast it with its fellow branches, and demonstrate its organizational plan that has been the essential reason Americans have been kept free from oppression and revel in the flexibilities underestimated consistently.
In the same way as other different organizations in the United States, the U.S Navy has a structure of its own. When using the example of a naval vessel structure, on a boat it is broken down into a few distinctive departments which are separated into divisions inside the departments, contingent upon the errand of the departments. The first step is to begin with the organizational charts which comprise of; The Commanding Officer, Executive Officer, Department Head, Division Officer, Leading Chief Petty Officer, Leading Petty Officer and Work Center Supervisor.
The Commanding Officer, also known as the CO, is general answerable for the whole ship. The CO makes the strategies and rules for the boat and has last approbation on all reports and projects executed at the command. The obligation the CO carries is total until relieved by the next skillful Commanding Officer. The CO is general answerable for the security, prosperity and economy of the command. It likewise is an expert organization on the grounds that it takes a standard expertise set to perform their everyday operation between distinctive divisions. The Coast Guard (CG) is the nation’s smallest armed service and most misunderstood armed service. Most Americans know the Coast Guard is the nation’s premiere lifesaving service. Some may even know that the Coast Guard is the nation’s oldest continuing sea going service. While the Coast Guard falls under the UCMJ just like the other four branches, and often works side by side with them especially the Navy; The Coast Guard is usually trained for a very different mission than their DOD counterparts in times of peace. This paper will shed light on the Coast Guard’s accomplishments and its sacrifices in its National Defense mission.

Chief Fegley reinforced advanced the Coast Guard’s leadership principles while mentored MK A 04-17 and EM A 01-18 as a sponsor. As the Assistant Course Manager for three courses within the Port Operations School, he directly lead to the development of over 200 students. In that effort, Chief Fegley supervised the successful graduation of members from nearly every unit involved in the execution of the marine safety mission. The direct supervisor of five Petty Officers, he continuously challenged his team with projects aimed at their professional development. The measures of these accomplishments included an upward trend in raw SWE scores, a member's advancement, professional development, and individual recognition.

Every Marine has gone through boot camp, each sacrificing blood, sweat, and tears. One thing that has never deteriorated in their years of existence is the fact that they have yet to lose a war they have put effort in. Is this exceptional record due to their extensive training? Is it because of their aggressive nature and mindset? What is to follow may shed some light on these questions and perhaps give some type of insight on how the Marine Corps was so prevailing and what conflicts had they had conquered. 1775, November 10th. This date is memorized and celebrated by every United States Marine as something of excellence, a date of honor. This date is non other than the "birthdate" of the Marine Corps. It was on this date that the Continental Congress passed a resolution to create two operational battalions of American Marines. These men would ultimately be headed by Captain Samuel Nicholas, of the United States Naval department. It was in Philadelphia that the first Marines were grouped and trained for their inaugural mission. The three hundred Marines that had been recruited, were placed aboard eight transport ships, all destined for the beaches of New Providence (the Bahamas). Upon their landing on March 3rd, 1776, they fought up the beach, sweeping through a barrage of bullets, and took command of two small stone forts and a number of military storage complexes.
The NCO, also known as the Non-Commissioned Officer of the United States Army was created in 1775 with the founding of the Continental Army. Over the generations, the Non-Commissioned Officer grew and flourished, training, teaching and mentoring soldiers to ensure readiness. Thus, the NCO became “The Back Bone of the Army” and the “Leader of Soldiers”. Although the role of the NCO is to lead, train and care for soldiers while enforcing standards, the leader must also continue development themselves as there is always room for improvement. In the United States Army, there are two categories of rank structure, the enlisted corps and the commissioned corps. The enlisted corps within itself contains leaders, who are referred to as Noncommissioned Officers, or NCOs. These individuals, whose ranks range from Sergeant to Sergeant Major, are responsible implementing the guidance and command policies provided by the Commissioned Officers and commanders in their units. NCOs are also responsible for the welfare and training of junior personnel. The US Army provides regulations and manuals with step by step guidance for the most trivial of tasks, but it fails to spell out specific and concrete information on how to be an NCO. There are publications, such as “The Creed of the Noncommissioned Officer” and regulations on leadership, but they lack specificity and objective instruction for how to accomplish the aforementioned responsibilities of an NCO. The knowledge and skills of an NCO are instead acquired through training and experience, the products of which are NCOs of varying quality. A good NCO is one who knows and fulfills the written laws and regulations of Army doctrine, has the character of a good soldier and leader, and is able to strike a balance between written law and doing what is right even if the two seem to contradict one another.
Abrashoff begins the book by informing the reader of how his story begins; when he is given command of the USS Benfold. The Benfold was the Navy’s most advanced guided missile destroyer the Navy had in 1997 and its command was to be one of the Navy’s top innovators. Unfortunately, Abrashoff points out some flaws with the Navy’s personnel management that I found to be shocking. First, was that “nearly 35 percent of the people who joined the military annually, wouldn’t complete their enlistment contracts.” (p.2) Such turnover can be understood by many business managers in the service industry, but unlike the quick and cheap training process for them, the cost for the military (taxpayers) is astounding. When a person hears the phrase “American military history” the idea that the topic only discusses major wars and battles typically comes to mind. However, that is not what American military history is. American military history is the history of the United States of America from since before its birth to now, how the military functions, why things are the way they are, and the possibilities of where both the United States of America and the United States Armed Forces are heading. American military history should be taught at all levels of education due to the massive number of reasons why it is important. However, the modes of how information is transmitted in regards to American military history and the kind of impact it can have on the level of general knowledge the public has concerning this subject should be considered. Lastly, some of the most important concepts, ideas, and constructs that can be learned through studying American military history should be examined.
Organizational structure within an organization is a critical component of the day to day operations of a business. An organization benefits from organizational structure as a result of all it encompasses. It is used to define how tasks are divided, grouped and coordinated. Six elements should be addressed during the design of the organization’s structure: work specialization, departmentalization, chain of command, spans of control, centralization and decentralization. These components are a direct reflection of the organization’s culture, power and politics.
