The European Union was the result of the after math of WWII, it was made to try and foster better economic cooperation with other countries and help each other grow after the war. It was also made to increase human rights in Europe and in 2012 was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for their efforts in trying to advance peace in Europe. Even though the European Union has a lot of good attributes about it, there is also a lot of bad attributes that are not often spoken about. The three major problems are the cost of being a European Union member, Inefficient policies, and the problem with the Euro. These are ways the European Union is beneficial and destructive to the realm of Europe and its countries.

Since these are the European Union 's main goals they are working extremely hard in trying to find the best way to make the policies so no one is excluded but are treated fairly. The European Union has a document named Charter of Fundamental Rights that brings all the rights that the European Union has decided are the most important and placed in a single document. (EU 2016) The European governments and institutions by the law of the European Union have to up hold all the rights. The European Union is trying to make its institutions more transparent and democratic, to give more powers to the elected parliament but the national parliaments play an even bigger role in the European Union because they work alongside the institutions they have been working on to make transparent and democratic. The European union may have its good side but its bad side is growing bigger than the good they have caused and it won’t be long when it all blows up in the worlds face. So the European Union 's effect on the European realm was positive for a long time but its changed to causing harm to the European realm, and has a very slim chance of being fixed if something is not done to take care of it now. Today I am here to discuss the perks and the good of British Columbia joining Confederation. Joining Confederation means that British Columbia will receive things that the province is in desperate need of, such as a rail link to the East, and help with debt and government. If British Columbia were to choose differently from Confederation, economic isolation, no support from Great Britain or becoming enemies with Great Britan, and American invasion would be the case. British Columbia is falling apart, and so are the people and the economy. Who will help us as we continue to fall?

When analysts criticise the lack of democratic legitimacy in the EU they generally point to the mode of political representation and the nature of policy outputs. Only one branch of the EU is directly elected is the European Parliament. Though stronger than it once was, the EP remains is actually only one of four major actors in the EU policy-making process. The EP is a body without power or accountability, and easily dismissed just as a ‘talking shop’ (Colin Pilkington.) Only 75% of its amendments are accepted by the Commission and the Council of Ministers.
To start with, what is the meaning of the Single Market? According to European Commission website, Single Market indicates the EU as one territory that has no internal borders or any other controlling complications that lead to the free movement of booth services and goods (The European Single Market - European Commission, 2017). According to the same source, single market has great benefits. It encourages competition and trade, increases efficiency, promotes quality, as well as helps in cutting the prices. In addition, the same source considers the European Single Market as one of the EU’s ultimate accomplishments that powered the economic growth and made the everyday life of European businesses and consumers easier (The European Single Market - European Commission, 2017).
Problems with the Maastricht Treaty and its Goal to Unify Europe My position is in opposition to the unification of Europe as proposed under the Maastricht Treaty, as beneficial to Europe. We will prove beyond a reasonable doubt about the uselessness of the treaty. The main principle of the Maastricht Treaty is European Unity. Unity is a nice warm hearted word.

Before we examine if there is a democratic deficit in the EU it is important to present what is democracy. The word democracy came from the Greek word dimokratia, which came from the words demos-people and kratos-governments Generally, democracy is when people can audit or influence on government’s policy-making (Coultrap 1999). According to Lord (2008:316), democracy has five requirements. Firstly, “citizens should be able to understand themselves as authoring their own laws through representatives”, because only then citizens self-govern themselves. Secondly, as saw above, citizens should control governments. Thirdly, democracy requires equality and mainly political equality, which means voting equality and voice equality. Fourthly, “democracy entails a right of justification”.
Europe will not run the 21st century because of a combination of economic, institutional, and cultural factors. However, for the purpose of this paper, I will focus on the economic aspects of European society that will impede EU ascendency. I do not believe that the EU will cease to exist in the coming century, but I do believe it will become obsolete because it will be unable to make the necessary changes to their demographic problems, defense policies, and economic culture in response to the increasing American ascendency. Europe has long been known as the continent home to the great powers of the world. From Caesar to Napoleon to the British Empire, the European empires have continuously been at the helm of the ship of progress. The wars of the 20th century however, left Europe in a wake of destruction and chaos period before. The continent was devastated and had little hope to recover. In this new era of European descent, the great American Era came into existence. The US, one of the remaining superpowers, became the helping hand that Europe needed. With the aid allocated by the Marshall Plan and the creation of programs and institutions, Europe had a future. The creation of the European Union (EU) united the European countries over the common goal of preventing war another war. The United States intended for these programs to be a stepping-stone to build the economic and institutional powers of Europe, because a stronger Europe was good for the US. However, instead of using these as a springboard to create self-reliant union, the EU remains reliant on US military and hard power to support them their social efforts.

The European Union stands on the threshold of unparalleled change over the coming years. The next waves of enlargement will be unprecedented in nature and continental in scale. This process has gained so much political momentum that it is now irreversible.
The citizens should have a say in all of this, after all that is really what started this big mess. Was because the people wanted to have a voice and now this is their chance,to let their voices be heard and when they signed the deal with Russia that was their way of saying “ Thank You but no thank you” to the EU. Still, to this very day, there is still a struggle to come to some kind of civil agreement to end this feud. That is why the EU, the United States, and their allies have imposed sanctions.
Europe has a history of war and conflict that predates living memory and the idea of a united Europe is something that appears repeatedly in that history. Hitler, Napoleon, and the many Roman Emperors all sought a united Europe. Their quests although in many ways motivated by a horrifying desire for power sparked the minds of philosophers and other political thinkers to imagine Europe united in harmony and peace despite national differences.
