The Trial of Lyle and Erik Menendez

On August 20, 1989 two brothers committed an unspeakable crime; the murder of their parents. Obviously, we now know who committed it but at the time, Lyle and Erik Menendez were not suspected. Police arrived at the scene to find Jose and Kitty Menendez dead, Kitty with multiple gun shot wounds and also bruises from being beat. Eric and Lyle were the ones to ‘discover’ the bodies and call the police, and were the whole reason this situation was surfaced.
The Menendez boys grew up in a rich household. The family lived a very luxurious lifestyle. Kitty and Jose lived in Beverly Hills in a mansion and also owned a house with 14 acres in Calabasas, California.They had anything anyone could possibly want; lots of cars, lots of land, a super nice huge home, two loving sons, and most of all, lots of money. Money seemed to be the motive here, as only a few days after their parents murder, -Eric and Lyle went on spending spree’s, buying anything and everything they could get their hands on. It was August 20, 1989 when Jose and Kitty’s lives ended. The couple popped in a movie and settled down to watch it for the night and were sleeping when the shooting happened. Lyle and Eric had “went out” for the evening but soon we learned what their plan for the night really was.The first shot that was fired hit Jose in the elbow, the second in his arm, and the third shot was fired from a shotgun, straight to the back of Jose’s head. After the first shots, Mrs. Menendez had awoken. She tried to escape but the gun was fired and she was shot in the leg and arm. ...y but “jurors in that trial deadlocked, unable to choose between verdicts of premeditated murder or self-defense.” As stated by another CNN source. The verdict stated that both Lyle and Erik Menendez were guilty of first degree murder.
Lyle and Erik Menendez lived a very spoiled life, with just about everything they could ever ask for. Their parents had tons of money and lived in a dream house with lots of cash to spare. It seems that money mattered more than keeping their family together, as their lives fell apart on that fateful August night.
