The Treaty Of Versailles
On June 28th, 1919, Germany was forced to sign the Treaty of
Versailles in the hall of mirrors, within the palace of Versailles,
practically against her will. The Treaty, having been made up by the
Triple Entente leaders Lloyd George and George Clemenceau, and Woodrow
Wilson of the USA, was unfair to Germany, but she had no choice.
Germany's options were to sign the treaty within 48 hours or be
invaded, but years of war had taken a toll on Germany and it could not
afford to defend itself. It was Germany who called for an armistice on
the day we know as Rememberance day and yet it was Germany who took
all of the blame for the first world war, and would end up starting
the second one. It is my belief that the three major powers behind the
Treaty of Versailles, were unjust in the terms of the treaty.
Many people were concerned about the harshness of the treaty and were
worried that the Germans would become bitter and fall into a deep
depression, and it was not far from the truth. One of the most
infuriating things about the whole situation, was that Germany was not
invited to the conferences and therefore was only able to sit and wait
until an agreement was presented to them. When the first draft of the
treaty was given to the Germans, they had three weeks to look over the
proposal and come up with their objections. Even then, very few of
their complaints were acknowledged, apart from some very slight
territorial readjustments. The treaty left a bitter taste in Germany's
mouth that would help ignite the anger and bitterness that was needed
to rise up again.
First of all, there were the political effects ...
... middle of paper ...
... and hardly any equipment to speak of, and there was
nothing that they could do about it. With no say in the amount of
reparations, the impossible amount of 6,600 million pounds was to be
paid by the Germans for the damages as a result of the war. The
depression that followed was probably the reason Hitler was able to
get people to believe in him and follow him. Politically, Germany was
as weak as she ever had been, making it easy for extreme groups to
come into power. The Treaty of Versailles would inevitably fuel the
anger needed for Germany to rise up and take back their dignity,
eventually causing WW2. I do believe whole-heartedly that the Treaty
of Versailles was cruel to the German people, whose government was the
one to blame for the war, and that the " Big Three" could have been
more lenient in their decisions.
action to prove to the rest of the world that Germany was more powerful than all. In
While the economic recession certainly influenced this preference of the Clinton administration, it can also be attributed to the same distaste for foreign intervention among the public that impacted Bush’s limited engagement in Iraq in 1991 (the “Vietnam Syndrome”). As can be witnessed in the aforementioned 1999 foreign policy speech, Clinton’s belief in “assertive multilateralism” (a term coined by his Secretary of State Madeline Albright) relied more heavily on free trade and international organisations such IMF and World Bank. Indeed, towards the end of the speech, he declared that while efforts should be made to “keep our soldiers out of war”, the United States should, at the same time, “finally pay both our dues and our debts to the United
Robert S. McNamara served as Secretary of Defense for the United States under both President John F. Kennedy and President Lyndon B. Johnson from 1961 to 1968. During his service, McNamara oversaw military action for one of America’s most controversial wars, the Vietnam War. The Vietnam War created a polarity of opinions in the United States over what the correct the course of war would be. Those who advocated for a cease fire were referred to as “doves” while those who preferred elevated military action were called “hawk”. One thing that these two parties could agree upon, however, was a timely end to this highly unpopular war. As the war continued to decline, McNamara’s involvement was scrutinized even more intensely. Germany continued to push buttons resulting in the world jumping into a World War. Nations desired to grow and gain more influence. Danger increased while others selfish dictators were trying to bloom. In The Treaty of Versailles an article stated that German troops were forbidden from entering
World War Two was the most devastating conflict in the history of humanity. It crippled many nations and caused millions of people to die. One of the major causes of this disastrous war was the Treaty of Versailles which ended the First World War. This treaty was destructive towards the Germans. Germany had to pay large amounts of reparations to the Allied nations at the end of World War One resulting in a Great Depression in Germany. Additionally, the Treaty of Versailles’ war guilt clause forced Germans to admit full responsibility for starting the war. Furthermore, to gain the support of the German populace, Adolf Hitler adopted an effective propaganda campaign. Adolf Hitler employed a successful propaganda campaign to gain the support of the German people combined with the Treaty of Versailles harsh economic and political sanctions ignited World War Two.
... all involved. President Johnson was determined to have a limited involvement in the war without involving the legal approval of Congress or the knowledge of the people of America. McNamara and Taylor regularly lie to conceal actions. McMaster has written a thorough look at the decisions of all these men, which certainly shows a Dereliction of Duty.
The Treaty of Versailles is one of the most controversial postwar resolutions ever drawn up. The leaders of the prevailing 4 nations, Woodrow Wilson, Georges Clemenceau, David Lloyd George, and Vittorio Orlando, were the authors of this controversial document. Each leader went into Versailles with their own idea of how the world should look after the great war. However, the European leaders widely agreed that Germany should be restricted, to some extent, militarily and sanctioned economically. France demanded the most from Germany, to ensure that Germany could not recreate a war machine ever again. Specifically, France wanted to annex Alsace-Lorraine and the Rhineland to create a buffer zone between Germany and mainland France. France demanded
Taylor’s perspective on the origins of the Second World War, although controversial, is not one so easily dismissed. Taylor’s approach is one of, “innocent until proven guilty,” which allowed him to distribute accountability to both the Allied and Axis powers. Taylor carefully constructs a historical chain of cause and effect through his unbiased evaluation. The First World War left a structurally sound Germany bent on restoring its independence, and a weakened balance of power in Europe. These facts, along with a morally revolting yet rational leader, faced only with a strict policy of appeasement combined to form the perfect storm, one that would ravage the world in the Second World War.
World War II is cause for much debate over the morals and ethics of wartime attack strategies.
Ellicia Chiu Mrs. Daly World History: Period 3 4/27/15 How Did the Versailles Treaty Help Cause World War II? The first World War is recorded as one of the “deadliest conflicts in human history”. With over 16 million dead, it was one of the first wars with a high amount of casualties. However, the one that tops the list with around 60 million deaths was World War II.
The written agreement of Versailles was supposed to be a peace agreement between the Allies and therefore the Germans. Versailles created political discontent and economic chaos in FRG. The peace of Versailles described the results of hostility and revenge and opened the door for a dictator and warfare II.November eleven, 1918 marked the top of the primary warfare. All controversy starting with the Black Hand the Italian Black Hand, not to be confused with the Serbian assassination society of the same name, was a method of extortion that gangsters and Mafiosi practiced in the early 10th century. It originated in the Kingdom of Naples around 1750. Though, it did not become so commonplace until the late 19th century. This is when many Sicilian immigrants coming to the United States banded together for lack of the ability to communicate with anyone else, even northern Italians (Pitkin). Some normal tactics used by the Black Hand included threatening, beating, kidnapping, arson, and even murder. Most threats were sent by letter demanding Money to be dropped off at a specific place or they would suffer the consequences. No matter what the issue was the letter was signed with a black handprint. Hence the American press dubbed the society the Black Hand. Before any agreement was signed the cause of this war was The assassination of Franz Ferdinand was the single most significant event that plunged Europe into war.

The 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month of 1918, marks the day that WWI descended into armistice. However, the involved countries reached an agreement as to the events following the war on the 28th of June, 1919. The famous Treaty of Versailles was known for its role in ending war. But it was not known for being a double-edged sword, as the ending of war came with the consequence of causing future war. The Treaty consisted of uncontested biases due to Germany's unconditional surrender. The Allies held a gun to Germany's head, with their trigger finger tense. Each article of the Versailles Treaty only made Germany more restless, until 1933 when Hitler produced his own gun and pointed it at the Allies. The Treaty had a series of unproportional effects upon Germany and its people. It caused a rift between the two sides because of the alliances that it formed, brewing tension. The punishments enforced upon Germany were unrealistically huge and it increased the wish among the Germans for the nullification of the Treaty. Finally, the accumulated hatred amongst the people gave birth to potential for a revolution. The Treaty of Versailles is, therefore, an indirect cause to World War II, because of the alliances it caused, the punishments it enforced, and the hatred it developed.
The war started in September 1, 1939 when Germany invaded the territory of Poland, which was allied with Great Britain and France. German officials signed a peace treaty in August 24-25 with the Soviet Union to prevent them from acting in the invasion and to stay in peace between both countries. So Great Britain, France, Australia and New Zealand declared war on Germany the day of September 3, 1939. After this event, Canada also declared war on Germany at September 10, 1939. Germany rapidly crushed Poland, since it had an incredible army with 100 infantry divisions and six armored divisions. Due to the peace treaty between Germans and Soviets, in September 17th the Soviet also invaded and took eastern Poland. Later in the year, on November 30th, the USSR invaded Finland while Great Britain and France where occupied with Germany. At this time, Japan was in the Far East, and had Asia in turmoil. Imperial Japan invaded china and various other territories ...
