The Transformation in Cell Phones Many studies point out how cell phones have changed our lifestyles dramatically over the years. They’ve become a part of people because as many can’t go anywhere without a cell phone at their side. Cell phones began as just a talking device, but today, one can now call, store contacts, text, email, surf the web and have access to endless apps. Though much has been said about cell phones becoming a huge distraction in today’s society, less attention has been paid to how much cell phones have transformed over the year and the advancements they’ve given us. (Ray) The earliest type of cell phone is remembered as “car phone,” because these phones required the power of a vehicle in order to operate. Car phones were too large and cumbersome for people to carry. People in today’s society can’t even imagine a lifestyle where you would have to sit in the car in order to make a phone call, although, this was only about fifty years ago. (Ray) People used to live their lives with no change from birth to grave because their was no technology advancements. People once didn’t have clocks, but it didn’t matter These phones were very popular for their time because they had a long lasting battery life and more talk time. Phone companies began to advance and realize how to pack all the features their customers wanted into a smaller, portable and more affordable device. (Ray) Cell phones at this time had large antennas, twelve keys and no extras like we had today. (Cullen) The physical shape of cell phones changed drastically over time as they began weighing two and a half pounds, and an Apple iPhone only weighing 20 grams today. The perception of consumers changed over the years, as they wanted a sleeker and more portable cellular device. Phones today have advanced to a larger screen with high- quality and less buttons, which allows more space to view multimedia sources.
