The 3 Social System Microsystem The micro system entails all the aspects of an individual’s personality and it focuses on an individual’s needs, ambitions, hopes, beliefs, goals, interest, weakness and strengths. The focus of a microsystem to social work practice involves working with the individual. Identifying the issues and problems that need to be address to enhance his/her functioning. (Kirst-Ashman, 2013) For example, a social worker dealing with a youth-at-risk may want to work on his belief system and promote his positive strengths as a beginning of the intervention framework of the youth. Being impartial when conflicts of personal and professional values and interest arises. 2) Self-Awareness It is essential for social worker to identify their self-awareness of their own cultural identities. This awareness allow them to be informed on clients’ cultural backgrounds and experiences that can influenced their attitudes, beliefs, and feelings. 3) Cross-Cultural knowledge Social workers need to possess specific knowledge about client’s cultural background customs and practice. This involves knowledge of and be comfortable with discussing cultural differences within a culturally diverse client groups. 4) Cross-Cultural Skills This skills allow social workers to learn to work with diverse group of people. This will ensure social workers establish opportunities to learn about different philosophy and skills. Social workers should also be able to evaluate strengths and weakness and working together with diverse culture to provide the beneficial. 5) Service Delivery Social workers need to ensure inclusion of diverse clients from all backgrounds and seek to create opportunities for them. Furthermore, a diverse workforce of social workers can bring skills or knowledges to the profession that can enhance the delivery of services to the clients 8) Professional Education Education and training need to keep up to meet the changing needs of the client populations. Social workers should be provided with training and opportunities for continuing education to sustain their competency and adequacy. 9) Language Diversity Social workers should ensure access to needed services in the client’s comfortable language. An interpreter should be appointed to them in the event of a language barrier between client and social worker. Organisations and service providers are required to take responsible steps to provide services and information in appropriate language for the client.
