One notable difference between William Shakespeare’s The Tempest and Julie Taymor’s film version of the play is the altered scenes that made quite a difference between the play and the movie version. This difference has the effects of creating a different point of view by altering the scenes affected the movie and how Taymor felt was necessary by either by keeping or deleting certain parts from the play. I use “Altered Scene” in the way of how Julia Taymor recreates her own point of view for the movie and the direction she took in order to make the audience can relate to the modern day film. Soon after Miranda looks up, she saw the dramatic scene of the shipwreck immediately begins the tense scene that gives off the feeling of despair. Immediately you will see Miranda running across along the beach worrying about the people that were on board on the ship, Miranda begins to look for her mother in order to find out if the people on board of the ship were safe. There is a change of the male Prospero character, in the film version the main character is a female Prospera. Taymor focus on Prospera casting a spell in the middle of the cliff to torment the people in the ship, with no harm done towards the people on board. By giving direction from the camera by zooming in and out of Prospera demonstrating how the choices were to focus on strengths of her character. The choices that were show how Prospera is an independent and strong personality throughout the film. Then we zoom back to Miranda that finally reaches her mother Prospera with concerns and her innocents look on her face. We immediately felt this impression that Miranda has an innocent of a child and Prospera as a sincere but immediately took control of this situation. In order for the audience to recognize and to feel connected towards this scene, Taymor felt that using the astrology/astronomy makes the audience closely related when watching the Movie adoption. The astrology/astronomy relates more to the modern day, depends on the people the person either believes the astrology or studied astronomy and can easily recognize these symbols. The film version visual effects for the engagement seem rather quick and short. (Movie: 1:12:50) Shakespeare play written during the 1610-11 focuses more on the classical Greek goddess. During Act 4 scene one, Prospero calls “Now come, My Ariel: Bring a Corollary” (The Tempest, Act 4, Sc. 58), which begins the engagement for Miranda and Ferdinand. As we begin to read this part from the play, the goddess enters Iris, Ceres and Juno the Greek goddess begins their lavish entertainment for the couple for their engagement. This scene feels more colorful and well detail for this engagement, during this time of Shakespeare, more people would recognize this goddess due their knowledge of Greek god/goddess. If Taymor were to place goddess into the movie, the audience in general would not able to recall this Greek goddess and would not able to have fit well and the details for this scene will not work
