Chapter Notes: The Sun Also Rises, by Ernest Hemingway Chapter 1 • Jack Barnes tells the reader about Robert Cohn, a middleweight boxing champion of Princeton who is a Jew and has a girl named Frances. • Both of them live in Paris. • Frances is determined to marry Cohn now that she’s getting old and her looks are fading.
