It is a funny thing about fish.
They are often thought to be stupid and pointless creatures. For example, I once asked my mother-in-law why she had not left any plants or toys in her fishbowl for her clownfish to explore. “Well what is the point?” she told me. “Fish only remember things for three seconds anyway.” Then she smiled smugly as if she was the world expert in the cognitive abilities of fish.
I have since learnt to ignore the mad nattering of my mother-in-law, fish are actually one of the most clever and fascinating creatures in the world. They in fact have excellent memories.
Therefore, it was most unusual when Belial awoke in his tank to hear strange pattering sound with no recollection of ever hearing it before. It was difficult for him to become properly curious though for he was drifting in the strange sleep stupor where one is trapped in a land halfway between dreams and wakefulness.

There was no knowing how long the sound had been going on for. It was like when you are lying in bed waiting to succumb to sleep when you suddenly notice a drip dripp...
In the story “God is Not a Fish Inspector” the author explores the similarities and differences between an individual’s perception of themselves and perception others have about them. Throughout the course of the story the main idea suggested about how people perceive and are perceived by others is that a person’s opinion of themselves is molded by what they want to be, rather than the reality they inhabit. Likewise, a person’s perception of others is molded by what they want or know those people to be despite what they actually are.
That evening, as we lowered the lights, we thought we heard a quiet, muted humming of an old sailor’s song as the hallway floor creaked under what sounded like light footsteps.
"The Fish" is filled with poetic images all for the reason of making a powerful point,
time and what was going on at that moment. As it continues "A Sound of
I think that this statement typifies the entire family. There is something not-quite-right about all of them. Vardeman, as Cora Tull says on page 70, is "outen his head with grief and worry" for his mother. He has confused her with the fish because they both died on the same day. In his child's mind he cannot differentiate between the two. Throughout the novel he refers to his mother as a fish, as on page 196. In this scene, he is looking at the vultures that have gathered over the wagon. Darl and Cash are trying to get Cash's broken leg situated better for the rest of the ride. Vardeman thinks that his "mother is not in the box. My mother does not smell like that. My mother is a fish."
The next fifteen seconds seemed to pass in the blink of an eye. When I
In William Faulkner’s novel, As I Lay Dying, the youngest character, Vardaman, has a chapter where he says “My mother is a fish” (84). He is going through some psychological drama due to the death of his mother. He is trying to make logic of the situation. He compares his mom to the fish he caught. The fish was once a fish, alive and well, until it was caught, and Vardaman cut it up. The fish was a fish at first, but after it deceased, it wasn’t a fish anymore. He is basically saying that his mother was his mother, until she died, and now she wasn’t anymore. Vardaman didn’t exactly understand the death of his mother, so in his eyes, comparing her to a fish, was the best thing he could do.
Your Inner Fish by Neil Shubin evoked many thoughts about evolution and humanity. My favorite chapter from the book was Chapter 11: The Meaning of It All. This chapter tied everything that Shubin had taught and explained to the reader about differences and the overwhelming similarities between different species of organisms. He went on to explain that many of the diseases or problems that appear in the human species are caused by our evolutionary history and would explain where these occurrences came from. An example of this is the phenomenon of hiccups that come from our relation to tadpoles. Tadpoles use this mechanism to breath without getting water in their lungs, but in mammals, this creates the annoyance of having the hiccups. Another
My uncle saw me and rushed over with his net to help me reel the catfish, we wrestled with the catfish for a couple of seconds before we finally got it on the dock. Whenever I saw the catfish my eyes got wide; it was the albino catfish. I warned my uncle about how special this catfish was to Tim and we try quickly to get the hook out of the catfish’s mouth and get it back in the pond, but before we could Tim came out.
...m the “battered and venerable and homely” fish is now a decorated war hero who has fought many battles. The speaker always had respect for the fish but at the end her admiration is so outstanding that she feels obligated to honor it. The final declaration is, “And I let the fish go” (76). This is the culmination of all the previous dialogue and shows the speaker’s utmost respect for the fish and how it would be inhumane of her to kill it.
The Tragedy of the Salmon The United States Pacific Northwest has historically been a significant player in the global fishing industry. However, over the last half-century, the fish population in the area has been declining at an alarming rate. Popular species of fish such as cod and salmon have been particularly susceptible to these decreases. What once was a region flourishing with abundant fish populations, is now in danger of being exploited to the point of extinction of certain species. The majority of these population drops is attributed to increased industrialization and overfishing in the region.
Following is a picture of the fish looking up to the ruined form of the arch came along, shows that there are more to the fish then what Mrs. Griffin mentioned. At the very beginning of chapter 8, this picture of fish looking up at the deformed shape of the ark, and the remains of the passengers riding in it, you get the feeling that the fish have more history than being poisonous.
Most people probably don’t know that Aladdin is actually based off of a story a little bit. When reading “The Fisherman and the Jinnee”, or while watching Aladdin you can very easily tell that these two were sort of based off each other. Whether it be the fact that there’s genies in both stories, the muslim culture, or just the fact that they may share themes. The genies themselves are even comparable too. It’s obvious that Aladdin and “The Fisherman and the Jinnee” have some connections between the two of them.
The psychology between the different fish in an aquarium is a very big part in keeping the fish alive and well. Not all fish are able to live in harmony with other fish. When some fish, such as a betta, are placed with another fish, the betta will become very aggressive toward the other fish and attack it by biting its fins. This is obviously not a healthy aquarium. When choosing fish for an aquarium, it is easiest to choose fish which are safe to live in a community with other types of fish. Another psychological factor related to fish concerns the aquarium size. Not all fish are happy when living inside a small five gallon aquarium. Some fish need larger aquariums in order to grow and live happier lives. Without a larger tank, some fish will become depressed, their growth may be stunted, and they may not live as long as they would have lived in a larger tank that is better suited for their
