Suicide continue to plague this society, both locally and globally. The statistics concerning self-murder are staggering and the cost are astronomical. According to the CDC suicides in sixteen National Violent Death Reporting System states in 2010, 33.4% of suicide decedents tested positive for alcohol, 23.8% for antidepressants, and 20.0% for opiates, including heroin and prescription pain killers (http://www.cdc.gov/violenceprevention/pdf/suicide-datasheet-a.pdf). Men are also more likely to commit suicide using a gun that a woman. The CDC states that, “Males take their own lives at nearly four times the rate of females and represent 77.9% of all suicides (http://www.cdc.gov/violenceprevention/pdf/suicide-datasheet-a.pdf).” What causes an individual a desire to rob their family and the society as a whole with the talents and gifts given to them at births? Is there something that we can learn from history to assist with prevention methods? Question like these are often never answered. Educating adolescence, parents, and teacher on effective prevention methods and we might not have to search for answers. Child Welfare Services: Combating Adolescent Suicides Introduction The Dalai Lama (2016) says this about life, “The purpose of our lives is to be happy.” Yet, there is a segment within our society, local and global, that believes that life is not worth living. Many struggle with depression, bullying, assault (physical and sexual), and Post Traumatic Stress disorder. Those who are struggling with psychological, emotional, or physical damage often end their journey with the act of self-killing, more commonly known as suicide. Conclusion Death has no race, gender, color, or socioeconomic background. It does not care if you are rich or poor, death will visit us all at some point in time. But when Death visits as a result of self it is extremely difficult to handle. Suicide effects all area of society and the cost to family and friends cannot not be calculated. This is why prevention methods must be robust and detailed. The need to get the who community involved is necessary it effect all area of life. Suicide has deep roots that has spread throughout history, both secular and religious. We have the ability to reduce or prevent suicides. One death, especially suicides, is one death to many.
