For thousands of years, humans have used various drugs to heal their illness or various kinds of disease. Some drugs are abused since they give hallucination to the user. Like alcohol and marihuana, they are mostly used as illegal recreation. The number of addicts keeps increasing. Surprisingly, the number of teen drug abuse has been continuously raised as well. Teenagers go through adolescence. Adolescence can be time of both chaos and discovery. They can be easily seduced into drug abuse. Their schools or their families have responsibility of their children not falling into drug abuse. The addiction studies education in middle school may be more efficient to improve many aspects in kid’s lives
As developing the addiction studies education in middle school, teenager will be more alarmed about how physically harmful drug and weed can be on their brains.
“Long-term marijuana use causes temporary cognitive defects, particularly with respect to attention and memory, lasting as long as a few days after smoking marijuana. … Even short-term losses of cognitive functions as a result of marijuana use are detrimental, especially to the developing minds of children and adolescents” (Tuyl 17).
During the adolescence, teenagers can grow up not only mentally but also, physically. Nevertheless, if they abuse any kinds of drug, the drug will affect the ability to concentrate. Eventually, that will decrease their academic skills. Tuyl states that “teens who rely on marijuana as a chemical crutch and refuse to face the challenges of growing up never learn the emotional, psychological, and social lessons of adolescence” (17). Our society has started accepting some drug for the medical use. Nevertheless, it led the increase of addicts. People began to overuse the drugs with the excuse with medical permission. It may affect on our kids to be more close to drug abuse. Through adolescence and finding self-identity, kids will be tempted to smoke marijuana or any kinds of drug and alcohol. The most effective drug education will be created when parents and school teachers are both working together. If they show their care and actively communicate with the child, they will learn and ruminate. This is the best way to prevent future children’s drug addiction. Additionally, it will let the child see that if they become fettered of drugs, there are people who love enough to assist them and enable their malfunctioned habit.
