The Sport of Tennis Tennis is a sport that many people love to play. It is not the hardest sport in the world to learn. When playing against someone, it is called a match. Tennis can be played one on one or a doubles match. The main object of the game is to hit the ball over the net, inside of the lines so that the opponent can't get to it. There are two lines about two feet parallel to each other that outline the court. In a singles match, the inner line is the out of bound line, while the outer line is out of bounds in a doubles match. If you want to play, take a look at my two favorite tennis players because they are masters at serving and scoring, a few key aspects of the game. Serving starts each point play. The players stand on opposite ends of each other, and the person serving is called the Server and the other the Receiver. Serving must be done from behind the baseline. When serving, toss the ball in the air and hit it before it touches the ground. There is a service court that the ball must land in first only when serving. It is a square opposite end of service area. The Server becomes the Receiver, and the Receiver becomes the Server after each game. After a good service ball, the ball is in play. Play does not stop until one of the players hits the ball out of bounds, into the net, or fail to hit the ball before it bounces twice. Serving just takes practice and can be a main asset in tennis. Scoring is not complicated at all. After winning the first point, no matter if the Server or the Receiver wins, his score is fifteen. Then, when a player wins his second point, he has a score of thirty. A third point makes the score forty. The fourth point wins the game. In addition, the score is called deuce if both players have scored three points. The first player to score two consecutive points will win the game. Most matches are played the best out of five sets. In a set, the first player to win six games wins that set if he is up by two games.
Years of playing the game and not improving, Gawande incidentally finds himself play tennis with a young man who is a tennis couch. The young man gives Gawande a tip about keeping his feet under his body when hitting the ball. At first he is uncertain, stating, “My serve had always been the best part of my game….. With a few minutes of tinkering, he’d added at least ten miles an hour to my serve. I was serving harder than I ever had in my life” (Gawande, 2011, p.3).

Racquetball is a competitive game in which a strung racquet is used to serve and return the ball.
The pitcher stands on a mound in the middle and throws the ball towards the batter. The catcher catches the ball if the batter on the other team misses. The infielders are the first baseman, second baseman, shortstop (between second and third base), and third baseman. The last three players are the left, center, and right fielders. The goal of the defense is to get an offensive player out. The four most co...
Serving is shot used by a player to begin a point and volleying is to hit the ball while standing close to the net. Volley is hit with a short and punching motion before it bounces. Practicing on using both shots makes your game more offensive and aggressive. In order to serve and volley you have to be athlete enough because it takes a lot of speed and agility to do the job. Right after you serve you have to rush up to the net in attempt to block every possible shots that are returned by the opponent to hit a volley winner (a shot that is hit which the opponent cannot return). When the opponent sees that you are at the net waiting for the next shot it gives him pressure to decide where to place to next shot. This style of play is often used on grass courts, and is characterized by very short points such as 3 to 4 shots rallies.
When surfing the Internet, eventually winding up at tennis4you.com, I found something called the “Lesson Lounge” which has instructional articles on the game of tennis. My particular article discusses a very crucial part of the game, and also a difficult one, the first serve. The reason this drew my attention is because this is a major weakness in my already pathetic tennis repertoire. By reading the article, I hoped to find strategy to learn from, and eventually, with practice, to improve from. In the article, they explain how the first serve can become “…someone’s biggest weapon making someone else’s worst nightmare!” That, not only can one use a power serve or a placement serve to attack their opponents, but that working out is not even necessary to do so. The tennis serve can have significantly more power by using “…legs, shoulder rotation, and stomach muscles…” during one’s motion. They stress that since you have two serves, it is crucial to take a chance and make sure your first serve is NOT “…easily attackable”. From here, they lead into more complicated serving techniques that involve the type of hit- such as the flat, slice, kick, and topspin serves. Although I am not good enough to test them out, through time, they could certainly help someone with an interest in tennis who is willing to practice. After establishing the four types, the writer goes more in depth to differences between power and non-power serves. With power serves, they emphasize the importance of rhythm, significance of keeping your opponent guessing and lastly, the need to hit it in bounds. They continue to say that, obviously, no matter how hard your serve is, it is useless if it cannot land in bounds. As far as non-power serves, they speak of smaller players and how technique and mechanisms such as spin. Another main point here is that one must serve deep into the service box.

When Morgan invented his game he came up with a set of rules, however many of his rules have been changed or there are new ones. One of the rules to this game is that before the game starts, there is a coin toss. This coin toss determines which team gets to decide who gets the serve first. There are usually two referees, one at each end of the net. One of the referees stands on a special platform to get somewhat of a “bird’s eye view” (Sullivan).

Two teams of eleven players each participate in getting the ball into the other team’s goal, thus scoring a goal. The team that has scored more goals at the end of the game wins. If both teams have scored an equal number of goals, then the game is a tie. Each team is controlled by a captain. In game play, players make an effort to create goal scoring occasions through individual control of the ball, such as dribbling, passing the ball to a team-mate, and by taking shots at the goal, that is guarded by the goalkeeper belonging to the other team....
Tennis and golf have a different history and are played a lot nowadays. Historians believe that tennis originally came from Northern France. In the 12th century people used to play tennis with their palms. Racquets were invented in the 16th century and the first tennis balls were white. The history of golf is unclear, but most people think that it was invented in Scotland during the middle ages. This game only started to become popular in the 19th century in England and the United States.Tennis and golf are the two sports that have become more and more popular with new generations. These two sports have a lot of things in common and are very joyful. However, tennis and golf are played very differently and there are tons of differences that make them unique.
When the first game was played you did not use rackets. You used your bare hands to hit the ball. Also you didn’t hit the ball just back and forth, you could hit the ball off of a wall. The first tennis club was formed in 1875.
The player is allowed to serve only once, and in the event of a fault, he loses a point. The service is regarded as a fault when the server misses the ball while attempting a serve, or the ball touches the net when served. The player can either toss the ball in the air or bounce it behind the baseline on the court while serving, but the method once chosen has to be used for the entire set
