Gifts of the Spirit
For Christians it is impossible to comprehend all of God’s mysteries, all of God’s plans, all of God’s desires, abilities, mercies, and blessings. It’s impossible to comprehend all of God. This is the price they pay for serving a divine God of infinitive complexity. Even when he spells it out for them, as he did with creating the bible, the human mind is incapable of understanding how God works. Since people are simple minded and selfish beings, debates over what God is trying to tell them in scripture can be formed, and can get to the point where these debates spilt the Christian churches. The question of whether or not the gifts of the holy spirit still has an active role in the modern day churches is one that has been greatly argued among the believers. Although many ideas have been presented on the matter, three major viewpoints have been formed; Cessationism, Continuationism, and an open but cautious view. Albert Schweitzer’s claim, “In everyone’s life, at some time, our inner fire goes out. It is then burst into flame by an encounter with another human being. We should all be thankful for those people who rekindle the inner spirit,” applies to everyone. The connection people have with others “rekindles the inner spirit.” These connections have the remarkable ability to inspire. Powerful bonds ignite something inside people to create a supportive impact. The influence of familial relationships towards one's positive behavior is conveyed through rhetorical devices.
This paper is written to discuss the many different ideas that have been discussed over the first half of Theology 104. This class went over many topics which gave me a much better understanding of Christianity, Jesus, and the Bible. I will be addressing two topics of which I feel are very important to Christianity. First, I will be focusing on the question did Jesus claim to be God? This is one of the biggest challenges of the Bibles that come up quite often. Secondly, I will focus on character development.
When the church was first formed, after Christ’s ascension, spiritual gifts were alive and active in the church. In the New Testament (primarily in the Pauline Epistles), many gifts are listed; however, it should be noted that not all gifts are listed in Scripture. Paul does not mention all of the gifts that a believer can have, but of the ones he does give, many have caused division and separations between denominations and groups of believers. From these various splits arise three primary groups of believers: Cessationalists, Charismatics, and those in between the two. In this paper, we will discuss what the various gifts are, what each groups believes should be done with these gifts, and what would be an accurate and reasonable position for the modern church to hold on this sensitive issue. For the church, an accurate and reasonable position for the modern church to hold is one that the gifts are alive and active, but should be used in extreme caution.
Even a casual observer who looks at the world can see that inequality exists in society. But what exactly does inequality do to a society? Is inequality a result of multi-factored social mechanisms, or does inequality itself cause the social issues? Furthermore, while people see that inequality exists, they may not know where to begin in repairing societies defects. Richard G. Wilkinson, author of The Spirit Level: Why Greater Equality Makes Societies Stronger, rightly argues that inequality is the acting social factor that divides society. To support this claim, Wilkinson presents data from various studies which draw an inverse correlation between the level of inequality and the height of social cohesion. There are several aspects to consider when exploring the Christian worldview. There are many facets or denominations and they each have their own distinct beliefs and practices, but they all share the same fundamental beliefs. In this Paper we will explore the character of God, His creation, humanity and its nature, Jesus’ significance to the world, and the restoration of humanity, as well as my beliefs and the way that I interact with Christianity and my personal worldview.
In response to the discrimination the American Negroes faced during the twentieth century, writer W.E.B Du Bois advocates for true freedom and unity in his book “The Souls of Black Folks.” His first chapter, “Of Spiritual Strivings,” effectively introduces the central concept of the “problem” (par 1) with several minor themes and concepts of the “veil” (par 2), “twoness” (par 3), and the “unifying ideal” (par 12). Along with these concepts, he further develops the central idea of “problem” by effectively using figurative language and many rhetoric devices. The “problem” (par 1) of the society is first defined further in depth by the imagery of “veil” (par 2).

In the end, we may indeed recognize that in some areas God’s given revelation leaves us with questions, such as how we are to explain the paradoxical hypostasis of Christ’s full divinity and humanity. However, we must also remain grateful for the revelation which remains unambiguous, such as that which explains how Christ took our place of death in order to satisfy God’s wrath, that we might receive righteousness and live with Him forever. Praise be to the Father, Son and Holy Spirit for the salvation brought to us through the person and work of Christ!
The Church as a whole debates many concepts that are in the Bible, in both theology and in practice. One of these debates surrounds the gifts that are spoken of in the Bible. In one corner are those who believe that charismatic gifts are alive and well in the church today. The Continuationist view believes that the gifts have continued on through Biblical times and are still relevant for today. In the other corner are those who believe that particular gifts have ceased to be used in the modern church and that they were only given for a particular reason in Biblical times. This view is called the Cessationist. Today each view, and other views in between, and the practice of the gifts in the current culture will be examined for truth, validity, and application by searching through each view and holding fast to the scripture as the final word of authority.
Pontiac is an Ottawa Indian that wanted to learn from the master of life, but eventually he changed his mind and started to look more into magical ordeals. Since he was learning more about magical ordeals he thought that he would one day meet the Great Spirit. By him not being sure about how others would feel about his studies, he kelp it a secret. He used many different equipment to cook with. Since he traveled time to time, one day he found a path in the woods. He thought about the three paths he saw so much that he went back to them and entered the first path. A spark of fire approached him out of nowhere on the first and second path. Up to this point very few of these beings have been discussed in detail. In this portion of the series we will discuss a few of the beings most talked about in the magical community.
Can one question, or consider evaluating the authority of God 's ' word and his infallible wisdom to supernaturally inspire those who wrote it? In the words of the psalmist” God’s word is the truth” and “every one of his righteous ordinances endures forever” (The Holy Bible, Ps: 119: 160). As students of the ministry, it is critically important to understand the biblical authority, inspiration, and inerrancy of the bible and the potential effects to society. This paper will reflect my personal insight, biblical research, and analysis to formulate a clear and concise understanding of this topic.
Faith healing is predicated on the belief that certain places or individuals have the power to cure and heal. Meaning, something or someone can cure a disease or heal an injury by means of his / its connection to a Higher Power. Faith healing may involve prayer, a visit to a house of prayer or shrine, or just a strong belief in a Supreme Being.
“Just as a candle cannot burn without fire, men cannot live without a spiritual life.” According to Buddha, everyone needs some form of spirituality to define his or her life and existence. Webster Dictionary defines spiritualism as “a system of beliefs or religious practices based on supposed communication with the spirits of the dead, often times through mediums.” Though this is one general definition of spiritualism, this concept is one that does not hold a conclusive meaning. Each and every single person has the ability and right to create and practice their own idea of spiritualism. From ancient times to present day, the term and practice of spirituality has transformed, particularly from region to region. Despite the discrepancies in practices and overall understanding of this idea, spirituality has had an effect and impact upon all of humanity since the creation of time. This religion that is believed to have been established in the early eighteen hundreds, after two little girls claimed to have the ability to talk to spirits, sparked interest in this spiritual movement, allowing it to spread rather rapidly over many geographical locations. Aside from being recognized as a religion, spiritualism is also believed to be a form of philosophy and a science in which spiritualists believe that there is life after death and try to demonstrate this through the ability of attempting to communicate with those that have passed on.
