Achieving your childhood dreams is probably the best speech I’ve ever seen. The speech about Randy Pausch’s life really made me think about my life and how to achieve my childhood dreams and make an impact on the world. Randy started his speech un a very upbeat way telling everyone he was feeling well even though they all knew he only had a few months left to live. I was really surprised at how well he took the fact that he was about to die because he knew that he had lived a good life and he wanted to share the secrets of how he did it. Randy started out by stating he had a good childhood which is very important because people who often have bad or troubling childhoods always have problems even when they become adults. This goes on to show …show more content…
This really stuck with me because I sometimes get frustrated easily which is not a good thing. Like Randy said, everyone has a good side, we only have to be patient enough with them to see it. Brick walls really are there to be broken down and I feel like the only brick wall that can stop me is myself because I know that if I put my heart to anything, I can get it done. I think the fact that Randy one of the reasons randy became a professor is to help people achieve the childhood dreams. I think it is very important to help people in this world because when you help people, they will remember you forever and you would have made a positive impact on their lives. Even though I do some charity work at my, this speech has inspired me to even do more to help other people. Even though I don’t plan on being a professor or being in academia, I plan to help make people’s lives better if I don’t help them achieve their childhood …show more content…
I also believe that professors play important roles because this past spring semester, I had a very took a notoriously tough professor for one of my engineering classes. Most people told me how hard the class was and how hard the professor was but I took him because his class was the only one that fit my schedule. After the first test, I realized why people said he was a tough professor. I actually contemplated dropping the class but that would have messed up my future schedule so I decided to keep going. After the semester was over. I realized how much I had learnt from his class even though I didn’t get the grade I wanted. This just goes to show the impact that professors have and how a wall can be broken down if one is really determined to get to what’s behind that
Her slow yet concise way of speaking, coupled with easy to follow transitions allowed for a speech that was enjoyable to listen to. Her use of examples from her personal life allowed her audience to get a picture of who she was if they did not know, and allowed her to better relate to them by provided examples of how she is related to the college they are graduating from. Her reference to many modern political problems allowed her to bring up her important role as an activist and facilitated further understanding from the audience. While some areas of her speech were weak, such as the longer than needed pauses and her lack of consistent eye contact, to a few points where she didn’t speak clearly enough, the overall picture that was her speech was fairly strong. Looking at this speech, I hope to incorporate some aspects that I failed to include in my previous speeches. Some of these include her use of hand gestures to emphasize and exaggerate certain phrases and topics, and her combined use of appeals. While my initial thoughts going in were “This is boring” and “This is too slow”, it evolved into me wanting to hear more, and overall my defeat in the beginning turned into a victory at the

In “Really Achieving Your Childhood Dream,” by Randy Pausch we open with a title slide, but fail to be informed of the author’s name or his target audience until further on in the presentation. This resulted in a less than adequate opening paragraph thus deducting points from the overall score. Looking into the actual rhetorical analysis piece of the presentation there really is none. His work is not compared to others, he has no writing strategies, and states his own opinion. All of these losses earned him a deduction in points.

Fear of the unknown can be a very terrifying situation, many people graduate college thinking they are done when in reality they are just getting started with life. In Steven Spielberg’s Commencement speech to the Harvard Graduates, class of 2016. Spielberg exploited the fears and truths in life, what he was faced with and how life turned out for him. In my opinion Steven Spielberg did a really good job of structuring his speech and keeping the audience’s attention, Spielberg’s speech was well written and well delivered. He used some very nice quotes in the speech to inspire the audience. Steven Spielberg’s Speech was effective in persuading the audience, he really showed great use of ethos in his speech because many of the audience could relate. And just like in his movies Spielberg used pathos in his speech when he connected some of his popular movies with the speech in order to appeal to the audience.
"A hundred years from now, it will not matter what kind of car I drove, what kind of house I lived in, how much money I had in the bank...but the world may be a better place because I made a difference in the life of a child.”
Should college professors be more like high school teachers? Are they one of the main reasons why most college students are struggling to get by? Like mostly every other college student, I miss high school. I miss the easiness and the pampering that we all had as our high school teachers would hold our hand through every assignment and lesson. I miss the short homework assignments and the blessed nights where we would have no homework at all. The stress we had in high school was minuscule compared to college stress. I think most students would be on my side when I blame the professors.
Achieving Your Childhood Dreams was a speech given by Carnegie Mellon University’s computer science professor, Randy Pausch. Pausch, who was diagnosed with terminal pancreatic cancer decided to do his very last lecture as part of the Journeys lecture series at Carnegie Mellon University on childhood dreams. Childhood dreams are something that everyone has but not everyone achieves. Rausch takes us through a few of his childhood dreams, both ones he fulfilled and others that he did not. He continued to describe how accomplishing some of his childhood dreams inspired him endeavor in enabling the childhood dreams of others. He closes by revealing that his last lecture was not in fact about only childhood dreams but how to live your life, he also reveals that the lecture was not for the audience but for his children. He left his final lecture as a guide for his children on how to navigate through life. Pausch’s last lecture was very effective in the sense that he inspired the audience, relayed his intended message, and kept the audience engaged by appealing to the seven elements of communication which include, self, others, purpose, context, content, structure, and expression.

I found O’ Brien’s speech to be extremely educational as well as entertaining. He used his profession as a comedian to incorporate pathos (humor), which positively affected the graduates. “When I got the call two months ago to be your speaker, I decided to prepare with the same intensity many of you have devoted to an important term paper. So late last night, I began (O’Brien, 2011)”. O’Brien is making a joke, based on the common stereotype that college students procrastinate on papers till the day before the deadline. “Behind me sits a highly admired President of the United States and decorated war hero while I, a cable television talk show host, have been chosen to stand here and impart wisdom. I pray I never witness a more damning example of what is wrong with America today (O’Brien, 2011).” O’Brien regularly uses humbling humor that supports the delivery of his speech. O’ Brien portrays himself as humble because he feels as if he isn’t worthy of giving a commencement speech due former president Bush, a decorated war hero was sitting behind him. O’Brien seems puzzled that they choose a television comedian, over a president and war hero because he is arguably much more qualified and respected. O’ Brien then jokingly states, that there’s a problem with America if the...
The exact quote is: “The brick walls are there for a reason. The brick walls are not there to keep us out. The brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something. Because the brick walls are there to stop the people who don’t want it badly enough. They’re there to stop the other people.” I find this quote very inspirational. Many of us have big goals and huge dreams, and those are not always easy to pursue. We may have brick walls (challenges, unexpected changes occurring, etc) in our lives, that sometimes make our dreams seem far away, unrealistic, or maybe even impossible. However, the best things in life are never easy. If you want something badly enough, you will do whatever it takes in order to make it happen. Like Randy Pausch said, those brick walls are there to give us a chance to show how badly we want something. It’s not always about the destination, it’s always important to focus on the journey. Even if you achieve your goal, the way you got to that point says a lot more about you than the accomplishment itself does. This quote from the lecture really stood out to me, and I believe that it is a really good outlook to have in
This semester I had the chance to take The Fundamentals of Speech Communication, this course has taught me so much on how my presence and performance in front of a group can affect the way my speech comes across. During this course, I had the opportunity to research and discover different speakers who have given amazing and inspirational speeches. Speaking has been around for a very long time, and our understanding of it comes to us at a very young age. I have researched and watched many great speeches but only one has really moved me. The speech I have chosen is the speech that Earl Spencer gave at his sisters, Princess Diana, funeral. (Staple, 2013)
“The field of education, and more important, the lives of many children and adolescents are better off because of the contributions he made.”
I consider Steve Jobs’ commencement speech at Stanford University in 2005 to be one of the most effective speeches. He uses mechanics of speech to craft a well-rounded speech that is crowned by his use of rhetorical devices. Jobs gives relevant and fundamental knowledge of his life and experiences with his rhetorical approach. In his speech to the Stanford’s graduation class, he tells different stories of love, loss, discovery and difficulty he faced in his life to encourage new graduates as they continue to mature in life. He encourages students to pursue their dreams and not be discouraged by failures they might experience in life.
The principal announce this quote from his commencement speech, “ Students, Class of 2014 stand up and said thank you to your family that they here for you!” Today, my family are sitting in the graduation ceremony watching me graduate on stage to receive my diploma and see me growing up. They were proud of me of what I have done to become an educated son. They always there when I need help from them, it was like a teacher to me. They told me everything that life how is going to be in the future, and they teach me a lesson or give advice everyday. “ You need to study hard in school and you will have a good future ahead” my mom said. My parents always think that education is an important thing to have, and they want me to have these to do better in the future. They didn 't have a chance like me to go to school, and now they have to work hard to raise a family. They didn’t want me to make bad mistake as they did because college or school is within reach for me to attend. I want to make them proud of me that I went to college and become an adult because they raise me and their hard work will be thankful. For example, my mom told me to finish all my homework everyday, and they want me to do good in school. She want me became an educated person, and the world will need a person like this one day. It make me feel my family helped me a lot to achieve my future, and I would
