Cold War After the World War II, the relationship that developed between the USSR and USA was referred to as the cold war. The war dominated the affairs of the different international countries, and led to the occurrence of crises in Hungary, Vietnam, Berlin and Cuba. The major aspect that worried most was the increase in the weapons that were used in the destruction of the masses. There was a clash of ideologies and beliefs among people, with the main being between communism and capitalism. (Mason, 2015) There were different convictions in religion that were used in the forming of struggles of power where the communists and the capitalist wanted to dominate and exploit the opportunities for expansion. The strategy that the Americans used against the Soviet Union was the containment strategy. The containment sought to contain Soviet expansion, limiting Soviet influence to Eastern Europe while reconstituting capitalism and democratic governments in Western Europe. Americans would then consider exploring the space making sure that they do not lose to the Soviets. The United States in 1958 made sure that they launched their own satellite that was named Explorer 1 and was designed by the Army. The signing of an order that saw the creation of the National Aeronautics and Space Administration was done whose main description was to explore the space and the development of different programs that would assist the military in exploring space potential. The Soviets were still ahead of the Americans as their first man went to space in 1961.
