Cold War After the World War II, the relationship that developed between the USSR and USA was referred to as the cold war. The war dominated the affairs of the different international countries, and led to the occurrence of crises in Hungary, Vietnam, Berlin and Cuba. The major aspect that worried most was the increase in the weapons that were used in the destruction of the masses. There was a clash of ideologies and beliefs among people, with the main being between communism and capitalism. (Mason, 2015) There were different convictions in religion that were used in the forming of struggles of power where the communists and the capitalist wanted to dominate and exploit the opportunities for expansion. The strategy that the Americans used against the Soviet Union was the containment strategy. The containment sought to contain Soviet expansion, limiting Soviet influence to Eastern Europe while reconstituting capitalism and democratic governments in Western Europe. Americans would then consider exploring the space making sure that they do not lose to the Soviets. The causes of the Cold War between United States and the Soviet Union were the mutual distrust that had taken place in World War II, intense rivalry between the two super powers, and conflicting ideologies. The two superpowers differed in views of political and economic principles and were eager to spread their ideologies to other countries. The United States were in favor of democracy and capitalism while the Soviet Union sought for the chances of influencing communism. Cold War did not involve the use of physical arms but was intensely fought. Propaganda, economic aids, Arms Race, and the creation of alliances were the main methods to fight the war. The use of propaganda played a crucial role in containment by criticizing the other power and raised the morale and spirit of their nation. The economic support for nations helped them recover from the desperate situation after World War II, which prevented the nations from falling under communism. These rivalries would become clear when two countries competed in the space race, a competition between the U.S. and the Soviet Union concerning achievements in the field of space exploration. The Soviet’s took the early lead as they put the first satellite, Sputnik 1, into space. The launch of Sputnik 1 established a sense of fear in the American public, resulting in the creation of NASA in the late 1950’s. This opened the door for space exploration today and for future generations. After World War II, the Cold War created tensions between the Soviet Union and the United States leading to extreme national pride and competition, culminating in the space race which began with the launch of Sputnik 1.

The Soviet Union and the United States served as Allies during World War II. At the end of the war however each side wanted to deal with the aftermath differently. The United States was in favor of a peaceful and cooperative relationship with Germany and their Allies. The Soviet Union wanted revenge on the crimes and atrocities that were committed against them. The United States wanted to push democracy in Eastern Europe yet the Soviets countered this by saying the United States was hypocritical, since at that time the United States supported the Latin countries that were governed by dictatorships.
