The South Was Not Responsible for the Civil War

Josh Fox once said, “When you’re cornered, there are two things you can do: move or fight.” It is clear that the Southern states chose to fight rather than to move by seceding. However, it is unclear if the North is responsible for cornering the South and making the South have no choice but to fight. Was the Northern states responsible for cornering the Southern states that chose to fight? The South is responsible for the Civil War to a minuscule extent because the Northern states are responsible for cornering and escalating the difference between the Southern state who had no choice but to fight for their economy and livelihood. Therefore, the Southern states is not responsible for the secession which led to the Civil War. When the cotton gin is invented and the industrial revolution starts in the United States the Southern states had to change their way of living and their economy. They are forced to grow cotton to make money and cotton requires a lot of slaves. This becomes the difference that led to the Civil War. However, the Northern states doesn’t require slaves in their mills and factory which is a clear difference between the South and North that eventually leads to war. The South was greatly dependent toward slaves but the North didn’t have a reason to have slaves. Northern states are responsible for the blame of cornering the South because they disagree with slaves but is immensely dependent toward the South which is greatly dependent toward the slaves to harvest the cotton. It is not an exaggeration to say the North was hypocritical. Northern states were being stubborn and didn’t try to understand why the South wanted or needed the slaves when they used cotton which is harvested from the slaves to develop their econ... ... middle of paper ... ...North caused economical damage to the South. The escalation caused more problems between the two sides. Northern states tried to force their thoughts into the South by developing the Tariff of Abominations to their advantage. Southern states feels abandoned because this tariff because it seems like the federal government is on the Northern states’ side. The South is not responsible for the Civil War while the North is responsible for making differences and the escalation of the difference that leads to the war. The South was cornered or forced to secede and fight for their economy.
