In the 21st century, technology and the internet have diversified how human beings conduct various activities. In the field of education, most institutions of higher learning have adopted ways in which student can acquire various online resources including offering a broad range of online classes. In a rather knowledge-based society, most corporate employers require that their employees have an adequate amount of education (Adkins et al., 2010). The flexibility of online classes presents a great opportunity for people to diversify and expand their knowledge in different fields. However, as much as there are some advantages tied to online education, this paper will primarily discuss some of the issues witnessed in this method of learning. While there is mixed research on how prevalent cheating tends to be in online education, there are measures that are set to ensure that the vice is reduced in this system of learning. Academic dishonesty is serious because it is central towards the student 's self-identity, the academic mission of the campus, the reputation of the school as well as the qualifications in which the school offers. When there are many instances of cheating, or when there is no measure to combat the act, the quality of students that is produced by a school tends to be wanting. Graduates of inferior quality tend to have problems obtaining jobs, or if they do, they have a hard time adjusting easily since they did not fully master what they learned in school adequately. While campuses strive to establish a culture which supports honest teaching and research, the issue of academic integrity goes way beyond the quality of work a student submits to the moral fiber of the learners.
