“564,708 people are homeless on any given night in America” (National Alliance to End Homelessness). And these numbers are only growing. There is no reason why that number should not decrease in the United States of America. While feeding the homeless and temporary shelter is only a short-term fix, I believe we can implement more permanent solutions. Funding to build homeless programs and help mainstream them back to stability is something I aim to work towards as a Social Worker.
Homelessness is an everyday problem seen in many areas of the world. Starting locally within your community is a good way to resolve this issue. The government, organizations, and even regular people are looking for ways to help solve and assist those in need. A small solution to this problem would be to first, just show compassion to those in need. There are many cases where people simply ignore the homeless population, call them names, judge them, and even harm them physically.
Should the government help the homeless? Municipal governments should provide subsidized housing for their homeless residents. This could help the homeless population of Louisburg. By providing the homeless with an address that gives them the opportunity to get a job, get back on their feet, and also give them a safe place to stay while beginning a new life. Providing for the homeless should not be a charity for show but, for the moral support of human beings.
The numbers of homeless individuals will drop, if we can work together on welcoming them the way they need it. Treatment for mental problems can be seen and assist to, and not just left untreated. Those that are struggling because of unemployment can work on finding and receiving new jobs. Although this will take time we just have the think of it as a step-ladder, the higher you are gives you a better chance of reaching that object you need. That object can be a home, job, family who will care for you when you need it, and also the ability to overcome that illness one might be troubled by.
The government needs to step in and set up more than just housing but institutions and treatment centers to help with their basic human needs, health issues, and trauma that is occurring and has occurred. By just providing housing is not enough due to the fact that many youth and others return back to the streets and continue their usual lifestyle. By the government, setting up programs to clean up Vancouver’s homeless population and by promising them jobs would also be a solution rather than them returning back to old habits. Interventions and more one on one support and guidance need to be provided by various counselors to the homeless to help them cope with their mental and psychological issues as well. Many of the homeless population are long-term drug users and most of the addicts have tried many times to clean up their act.
The residents of Los Angeles also give money to the homeless whenever and wherever they can. If taxes were to go up it would be harder for the homeless to help the residents. Homeless people in Los Angeles are very well provided for by the city and the programs, now they have to be willing to take risks and opportunities to help
They plan to give them housing services, production, agencies or entities. Housing and authority permanent houses or the homelessness. Mayor Landrieu prevent to help stop homelessness by trying to bring the state, city and community together to help the homeless as well. Members of New Orleans join together to see and talk about what they can do to stop homelessness ( Medina 4 ) . They plan to start a program to help homeless to have homes where they can stay instead of sleeping on the street.
The field research method needs to be used to experience homelessness first hand. The homeless are thought to have caused their own troubles (Kendall, 2010. p. 39). But anybody in society can fall prey to homelessness at anytime in their lives. Some people become homeless because of a job loss, a death of a caregiver, or economic downturns. Being homeless comes with all kinds of problems other than not having a place to sleep.
Before going into the main subject this essay will be looking at various aspects of homelessness which includes the background history, the major causes of homelessness, sections of our community that are likely to become homeless and social construction of homelessness. Furthermore, I will also be looking at government policies, act of parliament as well as debates from different commentators on homelessness. From my understanding there are people who make it a point to blame those who are homeless however, not all homeless people choose or wanted to be homeless. Some people become homeless through no fault of their own as society lead us to believe. People could become homeless due to various reasons, which includes loss of job, they may be evicted from their homes, teenagers who may leave their parents or relatives home for different reasons.
