The social class I would put my family in is Middle Class. There are a few reasons why I put my family in this class. Some of these reasons include home ownership, income, job, health care, education, different planning funds and vacation time. My parents own the home that we live in, which is a two family house. We have someone renting the other floor in the house. Both of my parents have stable jobs. My mother is a nurse manager at a nursing home and has been a registered nurse for about twenty years. My father is a Certified Nursing Assistant in a nursing home and has been working there for about twenty years. My parents never struggled with finding or keeping a job. Since my parents never struggled with finding a job, both of them are able to provide …show more content…
Some of these funds include retirement plans and college savings. My parents take some of their money and put it into a retirement fund. They have the extra money to put away and save to have a comfortable retirement. My parents also created college saving funds for my sister and I. My parents did this in order to allow my sister and I to go to college without taking any loans. My parents made it very important for my sister to go to college. My mother received her bachelor degree in nursing and my father received his high school degree and certified nursing assistant certificate. My sister and I are currently in school, hopefully going to receive bachelor degrees. In my opinion, my family has the best health insurance. Since they both work in nursing homes full time, they receive very good health care. We never pay any co-pays and procedures that are done are taken care but the insurance company and not out of pocket. As a family, we don 't take as many vacations because my mother likes to work a lot but we try to go on vacation at least once a year. These are a few different reasons why I would put my family in the Middle
Alice Elliott Dark’s In the Gloaming, represents how much family time is important to one’s heart. “…caregiving must be a way of life. This does not mean that caregiving is all of life.” Alice shows the opposite of good family time to hint at the reader of what is really going on behind the scenes. The author “pulls the reader directly into the world of caregiving by dramatizing the meaning of reciprocal human relationships. It also highlights some of the central themes of this book- that there is a difference between caring as sentiment and caring as practice, that caring is crucial to the human community, and that it entails skills that can be taught and learned.” The main character, Laird, was a normal teenager who liked to have fun and hang out with his friends. Laird and his parents did not have the closest relationship but they would still talk about certain things. Everything was turned upside down for Laird, his parents and somewhat for his sister as well. He became very sick with an unnamed illness. Laird never wanted to talk to his parents about the illness because he was embarrassed.
According to David Croteau social class is “a group of who share a roughly similar economic position and lifestyle,” a large group of who rank closely to one another in property (wealth), power, and prestige according to Weber. Stratification systems “are made up of social structures and cultural norms that create and maintain inequality by ranking people into a hierarchy of groups that receive unequal resources.” With these two terms we used these term and Dennis Gilbert and Joseph Kahl’s model of social class ladder to identify our family position by using the Dennis gilbert and Joseph Kahl’s model. According to Dennis Gilbert and Joseph Kahl’s they used education, occupation, and income to determined social class. By using their model to determine where my family and I are on the ladder based on education, occupation, and income I would say my family will be in the working class because my mom and dad never finished high school nor went to college. My parent immigrated to the U.S legally from the Secret War, and coming to a country that they do not know how to speak the language or adapt to the cultural it was really hard on them. For my mom, she wanted to continue her education, but my dad and his parent forced my mom to work instead of getting an education. Because of not having a good education she did not get to have a good job that will help support the family. But once my dad and mom started working we were living a really good life with no hardship making into the lower middle class, but once they divorced, my mom was the only one taking care of us eight children which was really hard for her, dropping us to the underclass (lower class). My mom was unemployed for a while until she finally found another job to support us....
Family is a word that many people are familiar with, but rarely define. The formal definition of family is a household that contains one’s parents, siblings and often your normal house hold pets such as fish, dogs or cats. Some people may believe that family is a group of people who just love and support you while others believe that family means nothing because they may have been hurt by them or may consider a group of friends to be their family instead. My personal definition of family is a group of individuals that love, trust and supports someone through anything they go through and will always stand by their side no matter how good or bad the situation may be.
In life, the moment we grow up is the day we start to visualize the future. Questions like, “How will I maintain this job?” “How will I begin a family?” “When will people start to recognize me for my talents?” “Will I ever fulfill my dream?” start to arise. Also, many other questions are being asked all the time, but since we are all different, everyone’s life questions are not the same. Matter fact, the easiest answer to our life questions are the lessons we learned at home and the lessons we were taught as kids. Therefore as kids, we learn all of these unique different lessons from our parents or family in general. Dedicated and responsible parents or members of the family know that children are the future. A family’s job and presence is to provide children with a feeling of belonging and creativity of their identity. Families should be a source of emotional support, comfort, protection, and etc. The relationships we create and mend creates our future self mentally and emotionally. Love is a strong word that cause us to either become strong or weak as an individual. Love comes and goes, but we start to realize that only unconditional love we really need is the love from our family. A family’s love is what causes us to grow into the person we should become. The theme of family is presented in a way to build the character’s charisma and how much support becomes a lifeline.
Throughout chapters there are always different themes they discuss. In chapter 9 of the text book titled “The Importance of Social Supports: Family, Friends, Neighbors and Communities they discussed about how many older adults are lonely and isolated from their family and friends. It is important for elders to have some type of social support system that is why it is crucial for them to have positive relationships with people. Studies have found ta older adults with little social support were 3.6 times more likely to die within the next five years.
Family is defined as “a group of people who are related to each other, a person 's children, or a group of related people including people who lived in the past” by the website of the Merriam-Webster, a respected dictionary first assembled in the year eighteen twenty eight.
Family may be the most basic, yet essential, aspect to every different culture throughout the world. Out of the various categories presented in this project, I believe family is the most important aspect to any culture, and it is also one of the most globally recognized basic units of culture. According to Aaron, the idea of a family has evolved within the culture of South Korea over numerous years. For example, the father used to be predominant and powerful because of South Korea’s power distance. Women used to not have as many job opportunities as they now do today, so the males were viewed as the hardest workers and the heads of the families. In the United States, however, the male and female both have similar “power” within the traditional family, as the United States’ power distance has gradually grown closer. Many people throughout the Western world have different assumptions about South Korean culture and their family structure.
Right next to food, family is the most important thing in Italian culture. My mother was born and raised in Naples, Italy and lived with her mother and three siblings after her father passed away when she was only six years old. My mother and my grandmother had a very close bond, the same bond my mother and I share now. My grandmother was a very hands on type of mom my mother tells me. Like most mothers, her children were her pride and joy. My mother’s most vivid memories of her childhood involve my grandmother teaching her how to make tiramisu and lasagna. Practices my mother has now passed onto me. Aside from the cooking lessons, my mother also taught me what it means to be a women. Being independent, never giving up, and working for what
Family has played an intricate role in the development of the society in which we live. The diversity in which families are formed is now becoming even more diverse with the American culture, which is changing at a rapid pace. Diverse cultures coupled with social economic challenges are key contributors to the dramatic change to the institution of family. With these challenges facing the institution of family, this closely tightknit unit which has been the cornerstone of American society has diminishing from a traditional standpoint. Non-kinship family networks like the one described in Karen V. Hansen’s “The Cranes, An Absorbent Safety Net,” goes against the norm of the common institution of family within America. Although the Crane family
When the word “family” is discussed most people think of mothers, fathers, and other siblings. Some people think of grandparents, aunts, uncles, and even cousins and more on the pedigree tree. Without family in people 's lives they would not be the same people that they grew up to be today and in the future. When people hear the word family they think about, the ones who will help them in any way they can whether it 's money, support, advice, or anything to help them succeed in life. Family will forever be the backbone of support. They are the ones who support their children during those life decisions. Family is not always blood related. Finally family is forever, family will never go away.
As a child, family was very important to me. My parents made it very clear that the people in your family are the people that are going to be on your side for the rest of your life. My parents were young when they had me so they needed some extra help. Although they did everything in their power to make sure their work schedules were set so that somebody would always be at home to watch me, that just wasn 't always possible. When in doubt, my granny would always come through. I began to build a very strong bond with her being that she was one of my main care takers. Over the years my parents started to figure things out so they no longer needed grannies help. But this is not what I wanted. Instead of
What do you personally believe are the most important functions of family? Why or why not be specific. The most important functions I will say is social unit. This shows a person from a child to adult what it means to be part of society. There not just one specific function that makes a perfect family. There are many factors that help make a better family. According to www.hrsbstaff.ednet.ca_of_the_family.htm “ A functional family is one in which family members fulfill their agreed upon roles and responsibilities, treat each other with respect and affection, and meet each other needs. To better understand family functions Talcott Parson a sociologist stated “that the main functions of the family were, “ to ensure that new babies actually
Everyone seems to define family differently, however, the significance of family is the same. For you, family means everything. You can always count on your parents and siblings for help and love. Family is very valuable and important to you and should never be taken for granted. No one can deny that family is the foundation of our generation. A family is where we all start our life journey and helps us grow to be successful throughout our lives.
The social institution I have chosen to address is that of family. An individual’s family life, both past and present, can have such a big impact on a person’s life in both a positive and negative manner. It is how we as individuals chose to handle life changing situations that will shape our lives and those around us. Family is such a fascinating social institution to study because every individual comes from a different family background or has a different experience than that of a sibling. You can learn so many things about a person by looking into their family background, origin and what type of up brining they had.
When I am asked what is my role in my family, I am lost in thought. Firstly, because of a paradoxical relationship between my family which means that my parents only want to do their own things but they still live together, I hold the opinion that I am the protector of my family. Secondly, I have two younger male cousins which are younger twelve-year-old than me. I watch and accompany them when they grow up and I want to be a good example in my family.
