Given the frequency of electronic bullying, children, parents, and school personnel need to become more aware of what electronic bullying is. As social workers we must strongly advocate to teach our communities how to help prevent bullying and teach effective interventions to decrease the violent incidents. School administrators should work to educate students, teachers, and staff about electronic bullying its dangers, and what to do if it is suspected. Instead of ignoring, suspending or expelling those students who bully they should focus on advocating for safety programs that can teach our children at an early age about the effects of bullying.
Researchers note, (which I believe to be true) that an essential way to get ahead of the bullying epidemic is to raise awareness. It is imperative for children to bring any incidents with a bully to the attention of an adult or school authority while it is happening. Schools are the one place children must go. For this very reason, the community needs to work together to make it a safe haven. Adults, as well as students themselves, can make a difference by banning together to make a change.
If bullying happens at school, parents should tell their children to be brave to report it to teachers or parents should consult with the teacher directly. The teacher at school also can give the bully some punsihments and do not forget to give guidance to the bully. Bullying has three main components to it. First, the bully has to intimidate or physically hurt a victim.
Parents can learn to find a balance in how much support they give their children so they don’t tip their child over the bullying/victim line. Bullying prevention is schools is needed in order to stop bullies, victims, and bystanders from the negative impacts on their mental health, physical health, and academic performances. These effects are long-lasting and can turn students who were previously victims or bystanders into bullies themselves. By creating a team atmosphere, students should be more encouraged to work together and give each other support to achieve a common goal. Offering incentives for everyone to perform well could distract students who are likely to bully their classmates. If you let parents know that the school district is trying to help their kids; the parents would try to help you as much as they can so that cyberbullying can stop (1. SV; SV;). Cyberbullying should be treated as a school violence issue. The burden is on the school to show how cyberbullying is these days. Bullying in schools has become an increasing problem however; it can be reduced by laying in place parental awareness programs, teachers working with students, and policies and rules known by all student and staff. Parental awareness programs are a huge measure of reducing bullying in schools. When it comes to addressing children’s behaviors according to Hellwig (n.d.) stated that “keeping parents informed about their child’s grades, friends, behavior, and even attitudes in school is an important tool when addressing behaviors” (para.
