My practical work was devised by the stimulus of `The Seven Ages of
Man' I had to consider a specific age and work within two age groups.
One of these was my own age phase, the other a mixed age. I developed
my work from previous work based on energy states.
My contribution to the performance was to play the character of a
twenty something year old. I implemented my understanding of the role
by method acting. Through characterisation exercises, an example of
which was hot seating, is a method of taking on the character, working
in-groups and answering questions in role, which were posed to me.
This helped me to feel like the character. Other exercises we did
included role on the wall which is where you write down the outside
and inside views and feelings of your character.
To help me in my work I researched and read Shakespeare's `Seven Ages
of Man'. I also read a profile of characteristics called the
generation game and we looked at a poem called `bags I' by Alan
Allberg. I found this additional support material from poem books and
newspaper articles.
The most useful text material I looked at was `Bags I' because it made
me aware of how people move through the different stages of their
lives in a modern day society. I adapted these ideas by taking them
into my play as it was also set in modern times (2002) this also
helped to portray the characters as we also explored stereotypical age
groups.
Our piece was set in modern day 2002. However the initial stimulus of
`The Seven Ages of Man' was set in the Elizabethan period in
Shakespearean times. The newspaper article `the generation game' was
similar to our production because it was profiles of different ages of
people in modern day. The biggest differences were the period that the
`Seven Ages of Man' was written in and the period of the other texts
studied. You could tell that life was very different in the
Elizabethan period, because men used to grow up to be soldiers and
women used to stay at home. The stimulus work made us consider what
traits were relevant to us today.

The people in our performance are two 6 year old children, a typical
teenager, a posh 20 something student and a 20 something homeless
person. In contrast those outlined in our play were different to those

There are profound effects of ageism that can be harmful to a patient’s overall health. Ageism can cause physicians to consistently treat older patients unequally compared to younger adults. Unequal treatment can be divided into the under-treatment of symptoms and the over-treatment of symptoms. The imbalance in how a physician would treat a geriatric patient is ageist because the older adult is not getting fair treatment in every case. Under-treatment and over-treatment are different; however, they are both equally as harmful to a patients health.
The Age of Innocence by Edith Wharton is a book that gave the word “love” many other meanings, such as impossible, meaningless and incomplete. There were many unbearable obstacles that Countess Ellen Olenska, one of the main characters, had to face because of love. She was treated badly by many people and always longed for love but never obtained it. With everyone cursing her, betraying her and hurting her, there was one person who was always there for her. Newland Archer wasn’t only sympathetic towards her; he also began to fall in love with her. The love she always wanted. He was the man who truly cared for her and always helped her make decisions. Out of all the selfish people in New York who degraded her, including her very close relatives, Newland Archer was one person who was there to listen to her problems and helped her solve them.

There are No Children Here; by Alex Kotlowitz is a story about two brothers and their mother, Pharaoh, Lafayette and LaJoe Rivers and them growing up in the late 1980's in the (HHH) Henry Horner Homes, a housing project in Chicago. In the story the boys try to retain their youthfulness while they see constant gang violence, death of people close to them and their brother is in jail and their dad is struggling with drug addiction.
“Though the age boundaries are not set in stone, we will consider middle adulthood as the developmental period that begins at approximately 40 to 45 years of age and extends to about 60 to 65 years of age” (Santrock, 2013, p. 485). I interviewed two individuals for this paper. Each person was asked the same fifteen questions (Appendix). I interviewed a male and a female who fell in the midrange of middle adulthood.
The term “ageism” is not easily understood by most of the population because of its acceptance as normal behavior due to the ingrained attitudes that most people develop in their youth, but health care workers must fully embrace the term within their profession in order to avoid becoming a contributor to the historical prevalence of prejudices and discrimination. The term ageism is defined by Klein and Liu (2010) as “the discrimination of individuals based solely on age” (p. 334). “Ageism is a social construct that is internalized in the attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors of individuals” (Klein & Liu, 2010, p. 334). Robert Butler, a well-known gerontologist, coined the term “ageism” citing that the discrimination and prejudice associated with this term is often based on the lack of a person’s experience with older people (Ferrini & Ferrini, 2013, p. 6). Ferrini and Ferrini (2013) refer to the strong influence that cultural beliefs and attitudes as well as a person’s current age influence the perception of aging (p. 6). Everywhere within society there are influences that encourage ageist attitudes such as media conveyances through movies, books, television, greeting cards, magazines and the Internet (Ferrini and Ferrini, 2013, p. 6). These negative connotations related to growing older begin to influence all people at a very young age and therefore impact their attitudes as they make career decisions. This has directly impacted the number of health care providers who specialize in geriatrics as well as the attitudes of those who do provide services for older adults. These false perceptions and negative attitudes are currently impacting the q...
During the 1870’s, Old timey New York modeled a much different atmosphere than Europe, which was still recovering from war. The way that author Edith Wharton viewed the society around her was one of expectations. There were expectations for men and for women. For the most part, these expectancies were unspoken rules on manners, dress attire, good company, and any other detail regarding one’s appearance to others. However, because of social determinism, Americans were not as “free” as they believed. The Age of Innocence presents a representation of the constant social trap that forced people to mask their true feelings because of the ever-imposing desire to always seem at their best.
The Elderly individuals face problems like Ageism. The older society is not given the same options in treatment as the younger society. The Elderly who battle cancer do not receive chemotherapy like the younger generation. Some people believe that doctors are genuinely worried about their patients and others believe that age discrimination is the reason of treatment discrepancy (Dockter & Keene, 2009).
Age of Enlightenment When Aristotle famously said: "Virtue is a state of character concerned with choice, being determined by rational principle as determined by the moderate man of practical wisdom", not many could fathom the message intended for during his time. In fact, his ideas of decisions based on logical thinking were largely rejected by the Greek public in favor for traditions. Fast forward close to two thousand years, the Age of Enlightenment has arrived. Francis Bacon instigated a revolution in the human thought in the 17th century. The thinkers began to question the rigid traditional ideas and institutions in place using reasoning and science.

The creation of man is told to be one of God’s greatest creation. A creation so great and precious that he made it in His own image- one without sin (Genesis 1:26-27). The occurrence of evil and suffering is greatly due to the Fall of Man. The idea of temptation is closely associated with evil because “sin is conceived in the internal stages of temptation and manifests itself in the external aspects” (Towns, 2012, p. 2). In other words, temptation is the root cause of man acting upon sin. A constructive approach on the theological definition, biblical foundation, and a practical application will be discussed throughout the paper to further elaborate and examine the Fall of Man and temptation.
