It was noon on an early summer day, but the sun was hidden behind clouds, and a gloom shroud had fallen over the town. a doctor, briskly entered a hospital room and looked at his patient, an elderly, frail-looking woman, laying motionless upon her bed. A few seconds later a frazzled nurse rushed in with the patient's chart. "Sorry doctor," she murmmered as she handed it over. The doctor gave her a knowing smile, another round of cutbacks last month had left the hospital seriously low on staff.
Flipping the chart open, he quickly reviewed the nurse's notations for the day. He then turned his attention to Sophia Roselli, an eighty-nine year old woman that lingered between life and death. Her sheet-covered chest had a faint rise and fall, her papery skin the pallor of ash, and dark shadows outlined her sunken eyes. He knew her time was near and he reached down to gently caress the limp hand that lay motionless on the bed.

Ms. Blankenship was dressed appropriately with good personal hygiene. According to Ms. Blankenship, she is doing well and likes being home with the family. Ms. Blankenship appeared to be mildly under the influence of a substance during visit.
As I was doing my rounds, I began cleaning up the bed next to hers. As I was cleaning she began conversing with me very casually about the weather. As we continued our conversation about nothing in particular, I noticed that the nurses and physicians were observing me in awe. This was the first time the patient had actually spoken to anyone since she had been admitted.

It had been a cold, snowy day, just a few days after Thanksgiving. My grandmother became immensely ill and unable to care for herself. We knew she had health problems but her sudden turn for the worst was so unexpected and therefore we weren’t prepared for the decisions that had to be made and the guilt we would feel. Where would grandma live? Would she be taken care of? So many concerns floated around. A solution was finally found and one that was believed to be the best or so we thought.
The doctor's office was crowded as I checked in at the front desk. "Do you have insurance?" the lady at the window asks several times before I realized she was talking to me. "I'm just here to talk to the doctor about my lab results" I squeaked, "Sign here, Please."
After reading the novel, The Sheltering Sky by Paul Bowles, it was difficult to imagine how one could transform the novel into a satisfying film. How could one imitate such descriptive settings and emotions without the advantage of Paul Bowles' wording? Also the novel does not have the plot of a typical movie, even an action or love story, and the ending is not conclusive. Could actors today play the deep and complex characters as they are portrayed in the book? These were some of the complications I considered when deciding how I would produce the movie.
