To dwell in a society, respect is genuinely relevant. It construes the dignity of an individual. Ideally, it is interpreted as a gratitude value of someone or something and several people believe that respect is an act of conduct others with just and kindness. However from some individual’s point of view, it means much more than just an act of appreciation. It is the cornerstone of the social order in which we exist. As seen in the scripts of “Spanglish” and “The Stolen Party,” respect played an influential role of binding relationships between the characters of the story. Respect does not belong to cultures or ethics. It comes from one’s inner feelings and expressed in a form of gratitude. For some individuals respect is worth more than worldly desires.
At present, respect is not considered a necessity in this world, but I can’t visualize a person getting far in life without this personality trait. Respect has always been given in different forms to individuals or folks when we meet or greet them. As observed in the movie called “Spanglish” the protagonist Flor and John Clasky hav...
For example, No Moccasins loved and respected her husband, so she went to find him and saved his life (Marshall 5). Three Horns respected her bravery and made sure that the tribe knew of her courageous actions (Marshall 3). Also, the mailman that became stranded in the middle of a blizzard when his car slipped into a gully. Despite him staring death in the face the mailman stayed put, and he stayed put because he respected his neighbors and knew they would come looking for him (Marshall 140). In the story of Brings the Deer, Sees the Bear recognizes and respects the struggle of the coyote, the wolf, the fox, and the hawk who asked for his help in their time of need (Marshall 184-188). Without that respect Sees the Bear would have never given up his meat. Furthermore in the Story of the Snake, the hunter’s respected the word of the giant snake and the task it had given them, so they tracked down the man with the scar under his eye (Marshall 59). And in the same story the man with the scar under his eye respected his village and took the shame and punishment of banishment on his own shoulders so his village did not devolve into insanity (Marshall 66). These stories all have respect interwoven into their respective lessons, and they cannot be properly taught without a good understanding of
First of all, “communities” can be understood as any organizations in the society, from small groups (family) to large groups (culture), that the members of the group share a lose-knitted relationship and a sense of belonging. Under this system, “boundary maintenance” serves as a sense of distinction of activity from group members to others within a large environment, it is a way to create social space by differencing between “we” and ‘they” mentality. It is possible to say that each of us create our own moral and cultural identity within communities through the influence of mass media, law enforcement, and other agencies by knowing deviant behaviours and its consequences. Therefore, boundary maintenance functions as social solidarity, which refers to the idea of division of labour and each role has its own function to the society, to let us determine the morally right behaviour lay. Next, the idea of “commitment ceremonies” marks the formal stage of the nature of deviancy, where deviant is being putted in a highly dramatic setting, such as prisoner. In today’s society, this formality ritual definitely results in destructive effects on the
“All I’m asking is for a little respect when you get home. R-e-s-p-e-c-t, find out what it means to me. R-e-s-p-e-c-t, take care TCB.” The notorious, veracious lyrics of Aretha Franklin’s song “Respect” probably ring in everyone’s ears as soon as they hear the word respect. Through the power of music, Aretha Franklin recognized the importance of instilling necessary words into everyone’s head. Hopefully everyone understood the lyrics well enough so the words pop into their head at the most essential times. It’s important for everyone to be respectful to everyone, including being respectful to oneself. That means holding aplomb, being truthful, and holding a healthy sense of self-worth. In addition, respect teaches a person to stay out of trouble because they value others thoughts and considerations as highly as their own. Respect controls a person’s temper. Respect builds up a society to become a better place. It relates to a person’s values and actions. The five reasons stated are just a few of the several reasons why everyone should exhibit respect.
The pursuit of honour by Claudio and Don Pedro is nothing short of obnoxious. All of their endeavors are public and have a serious effect on someone, and that is no accident. Such an egocentric approach is typical for all extrinsically motivated honour seekers, and the consequences of their actions are par for the course. By having all of their endeavors made public, their apparently honourable deeds will be rewarded, regardless of the true effects. Since Claudio and Don Pedro are so preoccupied with the superficial results of their actions, it is not surprising that dramatic misadventures transpire. When Don John suggests to Don Pedro and Claudio that “...[Hero] has been too long a-talking of, the lady is disloyal” (III,ii,89-90), they are faced with a decision. To trust in Don ...
You can respect cultur by the way respect is shown through everyday we live. “It may be unfair, but what happens in a few days, sometimes even a single day, can change the course of a whole lifetime, Amir.” (hosseini 142) In this it shows how we need to respect culture through the way it is shown, right after this quote the book explains that any action to a culture can affect it. So after this a boy lies about another boy of a different culture and the boy has to leave. This all goes to show how we should just respect culture so our actions today don't roll over into tomorrow.
There are many diverse cultures in the world, and one’s culture consists of language, beliefs, values and behaviors that can either distinguish or connect themselves to other people of different cultures. In the film Spanglish, there are many conflicts or struggles between Flor and the Clasky family since they come from different cultures. However, sometimes there are some similar values between Flor and the Clasky family. In my opinion, the movie’s main goal was to show how Flor and the Clasky family handled the situations in their lives based on their beliefs, rules, and values. In the following paragraphs, I explain how ethnocentrism, individualism versus collectivism, and masculinity versus femininity caused problems, differences, or connections
Therefore, this scene reflects various concepts of contemporary ideas in the modern world of social justice issues and relationships between people, particularly the modern day romance which is transmuted through social networks. These human natures are evolved as the transcension of time continues, to create an image of one’s self and compare to the rest. The fundamental ideologies with the conveyance of ideas of Othello are seen through its themes, specifically deception, romance and jealousy and the use of language techniques of emotive language to portray an authentic outlook to the comparison to today’s society. There are still social justice issues that relate to these themes which is a concerning issue as it may lead to downfall’s, death’s and other unfortunate ravel of events that will discontinue the balance of human nature and its peaceful assets.
Respect is a ‘benevolent, altruistic, or sympathetic expression of regard for other individuals’ (Downie & Telfer, 1969). Respect is behaving in a certain manner in order to show that you care about the individual’s feelings and their well-being. Respect can be shown through empathy and compassion towards an individual. It can also be shown by accepting and considering another individuals differences for example their race, gender, age, sexuality, religion and culture. Respect is a value to me because I believe looking at an individual as a whole and valuing them as an individual along with including their emotional, social, physical well-being and psychological is important. For example previously I have visited a service user’s home who was Asian. Having an Asian cultural belief within myself, my upbringing taught me about how you should behave when in another individual’s house. Such as not wearing outdoor shoes inside, behaving in a positive manner and not being rude. Upon arriving at the service user’s home, I immediately removed my shoes as it is what I have been taught when growing up. Having a shared cultural value base allowed there to be mutual respect between me and the service user. I believe it is important to create a respectful relationship between myself and the service user. If there is no respect between the individual and the service user, then this will lead the service user
Respect is one of the most sought after elements of society, second only to money. Some must have it, too. Others need to be able to do it. Without it, hearts filled with dreams shrivel up like “a raisin in the sun”(1730). An example of such a circumstance is observed with the character Walter Lee Younger.
My culture respects the people and the things that deserve it, but with that said, we also don’t give respect to the people who don’t deserve it. We don’t just respect anyone or anything neither, they have to earn that valuable thing that most people don’t have nor give anymore. This is probably one of the biggest differences between my culture and my society because in my society people don’t know the first thing about respect. The way i see it is that it really is a shame of how my society and these people that live in it can’t show even a little bit of respect for someone or something, big or small. Respect is one of the dying characteristics in this world and my culture has the last of it.
But one important aspect is what really are norms and standards? And to what extent does it influence the lives of people. Mariam and Laila are two great examples that portray what a difference it makes to actually grow up with the same cultural backdrop with different standards of living. Hosseini tries to interpret these things by using events to point out the different things that have occurred in Afghanistan in the 20th century.
There is a rare respect that everyone in the world possesses, and that is the
Develop a definition of respect that works for you and that you can clearly communicate to others. Think in terms of communicating who you are as a person and what is important to you. As you've probably noticed, people aren't mind readers - we have to tell them what we want. It's best to assume that people will only treat us how we ask them to. You literally show people how to treat you through your actions. If you act like a doormat you will attract people who will treat you like one. If you are healthy and balanced you will attract the
To help students up the ladder, school indirectly teaches its students about respect. Although not found on the pages of any text book, learning lessons in respect can be very helpful. The idea of respect starts with teachers and often branches to the development of peer and self respect. Everyone has experienced a teacher that they couldn't stand and dreaded going to that class. It was times like that which challenged the respect that had begun to develop. In eight grade, my english teacher was one of the mose mean people I have ever met. I got a 0 on a quiz because I spelled one word wrong (it was not a spelling quiz). I hated going to her class, half the time, I just wanted to scream at her.
Respect: without respect you can’t build a relationship. Respect is the foundation on which relationships are built and if there is no respect the relationship will be unstable.
