The Role of Women

2044 Words5 Pages

The roles of women have altered our lives substantially from the beginning of time. Take the example of Eve in the Garden of Eden. If the theory is true that our existence relies completely on a God who created us, then had Eve not eaten the forbidden fruit, humanity would not have been born apart from the only two people on Earth.
As part of my research, I took the liberty of interviewing a woman whom I have grown dearly close. I first met Ann when I was a little girl near the age of four just after I had discovered my love of ice skating. This love grew and eventually become somewhat of an obsession of mine; I looked up to Ann who was a Senior rated figure skating coach. I did not dream of going to the Olympics, rather I dreamt of becoming a coach like Ann.
Ann Serafini was born in November of 1949 in Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. She was the third-born and youngest child. She was born into an age that had just begun to accept the rights a woman could have. Women were no longer expected to have babies against their will. If a husband wanted a child but his wife did not, birth control was now legalized in the United States. As a result, she and her siblings were conceived out of love and consent on their mother’s behalf. Ann considers herself blessed to have been born into this day and age.
Since Ann was the youngest Serafini in the household, she was three years younger than her sister and two years younger than her brother. She and her siblings spent the majority of their time during the summer playing ball sports and building go-carts to race in the streets with their friends in the neighborhood. When winter came, they resorted to having snowball fights as a supplement for their desire to play softball. The only times Ann was...

After closing their antique business, she and her husband bought land near the mountains where they live now in Martinsburg, West Virginia. They used this land and built a quaint cabin, sauna and outdoor shower. They built their own bed and breakfast inn. To this day, they still run their bed and breakfast. They enjoy meeting all the new people who come to stay at their little inn. Ann and Leo have decided to continue to run their business until they are physically unable to keep up with the maintenance involved with the inn.
It is because of Ann that I am in the position of a figure skating instructor, today. She is an incredible person and her family history has given women a beautiful reputation. Women like Ann are what make the struggles that women went through in our history worthwhile.
