Throughout the 20th century, our views upon the juvenile justice system has continued to change. Historically, sentencing for juveniles and adults were equal in the court system. Juveniles who committed and understood the crime they were engaged in were trialed in criminal courts, sentenced and given the appropriate punishment (ABA Dialogue Program, n.d., p.4). Depending on the crime committed, the juvenile would have to endure prison time, death penalty or physical punishment the same as adults.
The current trend of juvenile sentencing no longer focuses on punishment, but on rehabilitating. Rehabilitating programs are on an up-rise helping reduce recidivism rates in juveniles. This research paper will address two questions. The first question
