As an African American baseball player during the 1960’s, the only option was the Negro Leagues to play baseball. Jackie Robinson played for the Kansas City Monarchs in the Negro League. There was not one African American in the Major Leagues until Branch Rickey the owner of the Brooklyn Dodgers wanted to try the “great experiment” and help integrate the MLB, he was willing to give this opportunity to one African American. This experiment needed an intelligent, tough, and an athletic African American baseball player and Jackie was the person who fit this perfectly. Rickey was a very religious man and his quest in life was to promote equality. In 1946 Jackie started to play for the all-white Montreal Royals, a farmer team for the Brooklyn Dodgers
