Human trafficking is a current international issue. It appears globally from in poor and rich countries, and developed and underdeveloped nations. According to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (2016), human trafficking is defined as trading people under the forms of "recruitment, transportation, transfer, harboring or receipt of persons", then controlling and forcing them to perform prostitution, labor and services, other activities like slavery, or organ removal.
Nowadays, human traffickers have mainly been working in the complicated networks of groups. In those networks, each unit conducts a specific role like modern business organizations which have multiple departments like researching, recruiting, transporting, and selling.

Human trafficking is among the fastest growing categories of crime in the world right now, rivaled only by the drug and weapons industries. A 32 billion dollar global enterprise annually, its effects are far reaching and highly damaging to all involved. In reality, “human trafficking” is essentially a politically correct term for slavery. Through books, articles, and interviews, the two phrases are used interchangeably and are used to mean the same exact thing. There is an endless list of myths and misconceptions in regards to human trafficking, but I plan to keep all the information here very clear and concise. According to the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, “Human trafficking is the acquisition of people by improper means such as force, fraud or deception, with the aim of exploiting them.” (1) This means that innocent people are taken from their homes and families, kept in secret and forced to work for their captor or whomever they are sold to. This work may be physical labor and it may be sexual in nature. The living conditions are usually harsh, and it is not uncommon for the captor (or
As victim count continues to rise, its difficult to see how such great numbers of men, women and children are bought and sold every year. Trafficking can be found in many forms, including: prostitution, slavery, or forced labor (Harf and Lombardi, 2014). It wasn’t until the 1980’s that international human trafficking became globally noticed. With the lack of government intervention and control in several nations, and the free trade market, slavery once again became a profitable industry (Harf and Lombardi, 2014). As previously mentioned, easier movement across nations borders is one of the outcomes of globalization. It is also what makes human trafficking so easy today. It is estimated that about 20.9 million people are victims across the entire globe (United Nations Publications, 2012); trafficking accounts for 32 billion dollars in generated profit globally (Brewer, n.d). 58 percent of all human trafficking was for the purpose of sexual exploitation, and of this 55-60 percent are women (United Nations Publications,
27 million people all over the world are currently being forced into human trafficking or modern day slavery, 161 countries including the US will be affected by human trafficking. 1 million children will be exploited by the commercial sex trade each year. Sex trafficking began in the 1700s in the United States. It hasn’t been stopped because it continues to increase over the years. Even though the law enforcement and people around the world could be strong enough to stop human trafficking, I believe this situation needs to be more focused on and stopped as soon as possible. Because Human Trafficking is increasing rapidly and Oklahoma is a cross-way for sex trafficking due to the interstates such as I-35, I-40 and I-44.
However, there are some potential benefits that are related to this modern-day criminality. Usually in large cities, some human trafficking is voluntary; an individual can sign up to be smuggled into a different country, which allows people to move from overpopulated areas into other areas that will have more resources and accommodations to sustain them. They may find a decent job, become financially stable, and turn into the head provider of their household. Another benefit of trafficking is by providing cheap labor to factories, such as assembly line workers, or to service industries, such as maids, resulting in the reduced cost of production which lowers the prices for consumers worldwide. By producing goods at a lower cost, similar companies will be forced to innovate and improve their industrial practices to stay competitive. It encourages the development of better products and more effective

In today’s society, where there is political and civil instability in the nations of the world, many citizens become subject to human trafficking. Human trafficking has rapidly grown into a transnational issue. Transnational crimes are often a result of an organized criminal group. These criminal groups quickly exploit the citizens of an unstable country and will send them to other countries while using upgraded technology and the rise of global trade to their advantage.
