We Need Food and Nutrition Programs
Nutrients are important to have in the human body. The food that we consume will either promote healthy body development or unhealthy body development. Therefore, as self-loving people we pay attention to the foods we put in our bodies. In fact, there is a saying “you are what you eat”, including the point that too much of anything is bad for you. However, not all Americans look at the foods they ingest in their bodies. It is easy for humans to be tempted to eat unhealthy foods or even worse lack self-control of how much they devour to satisfy their hunger. In the article, “Position of the American Dietetic Association: Child and adolescent food and nutrition programs” by Jamie Stang et al., Stang et al. states, “It is the position of the American Dietetic Association that all children and adolescents, regardless of age; gender; socioeconomic status; racial, ethnic, or linguistic diversity; or health status should have access to food and nutrition programs that ensure the availability of a safe and adequate food supply that promotes optimal physical, cognitive, and social growth and development”. This explains that the role of food and nutrition programs are to provide individuals at danger of poor nutritional intakes with safe and suitable food supply and to provide individuals with nutrition education which will make a good influence on their health status. In addition, people who participate in these dietetic programs show positive results in healthy food decision skills (887). This means that people who are aware of how unhealthy foods can harm their bodies make better food choices than those who are unaware of bad effects that unhealthy foods could promote such as obesity. Many people rely on these food and dietetic programs. Therefore, it is important that funding continue to be delivered to these nutrition programs and more importantly receive stable funding that will keep the food and nutrition programs around for a long time. Nutrition programs help individuals receive healthy food supply and good nutrition education. In addition, these programs prevent people from getting unhealthy and help people balance their food intake. If it was not for food programs, then some people would be left hungry for days while others would not pay attention to the ways they eat which would promote chronic diseases or obesity.
