Schools across the world have diverse polices on academic dishonesty, which makes it crucial for students to know and abide by their individual school’s policy. It is important to avoid plagiarism at all costs, there are a few different ways for pupils to prevent committing academic dishonesty. When taking notes from an article or other source, it is helpful for the student to write out the notes in their own words instead of directly copying it from the source. Any notes that have direct quotes, keep a record of the author, title, page number, publisher and date of publication (Burkill & Abbey, 2004). The internet is one of the most popular sources for information, however, it is misused often. Students tend to simply copy and paste the information into their notes with little to no reference; even notes copy and pasted directly from the source, must be properly referenced and cited. Lastly, including a list of references at the end of the writing will most likely prevent any plagiarism in the assignment, unless the sources are not properly cited.
