Likewise, Goodwin illustrates how the use of categorical terrorism can be seem being used by Al-Qaida during the attacks of 9/11. Nonetheless, it is evident that Al-Qaida is unusual in terms of using terrorism to influence the rise of unity rather than trying to overthrow a standing state. For the purpose of instigating a pan-Islamic revolutionary movement, Al-Qaida tries to unite all Islamic people under one state to develop umma, or Muslim community. The logic of Al-Qaida remained that if their “revolutionaries” could illicit a reaction from the powerful US state, resulting in oppression of the middle-eastern region, that Al-Qaida could, as a result, unite all Muslims to counter this suggested oppression. Although the end goal of Al-Qaida clear failed, it does suggest the organization’s attempt at implementing categorical terrorism.
The two victims said that they were not involved in terrorist groups, but during the investigation they had visited some Al- Qaeda websites to plan out the bombing. Al- Qaeda is an Islamist group that was found by Osama bin Laden in the 1980s. Al- Qaeda is the same group that did the terroist attacks on September 11, 2001. Al- Qaeda means "the base". In 2010, the Al- Qaeda's magazine had a step by step to make a pressure cooker bomb. The brothers were planning to do some of the same acts in New York City.
For approximately the past three decades, a terrorist group has come to plague the world with its activities (Gunaratna, 2002). This group is known as Al Qaeda. Al Qaeda, when translated means “The Base”. It is a terrorist organization that seeks to remove western influence from the Middle East and spread its radical Islamic views. Al Qaeda’s most prominent leader was Osama bin Laden, until his death during a raid upon his compound in Pakistan. The Al Qaeda’s motivation stems primarily from extreme and deeply rooted religious beliefs. Their most used method of attack is through suicide bombers and improvised explosive devices. This organization has also used chemical warfare and at this time is believed to still actively seek to utilize chemical and biological agents as means to battle.
His family upbringing and financial status helped shape the early years of Osama bin Laden. Osama bin Laden was born on March 10, 1957 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. He was the 17th son of Mohammed bin Laden out of about 50 children (Coll 84). Mohammed bin Laden was a wealthy man who owned a construction company known as bin Laden Construction Company. Not only did he obtain his wealth from this, but also from his massive support of the Saudi Government. In 1967, when Osama was 13, his father passed away in a plane crash. When this occurred, Osama wanted to take charge and start making a life of his own (Coll 85). Growing up, Osama enjoyed being on his own because he accepted the fact that he was not very close with his family. In times of need, bin Laden turned to Allah for support when his family gave him none (Anonymous 82). Between the late 1960’s and early 1970’s, Osama attended Jedda’s King Abdulaziz University which foc...

First off, a fundamental organization was someone who advocates for the return to the traditional religion. Which in the middle east case was Islam. There were many obligations and regulations to become a member of Al-Qaeda. There is a manual that includes lessons and qualifications to become a member ("Al Qaeda" [Page 1]). The fourth rule of the manual is sacrifice and it states; “He [the member] has to be willing to do the work and undergo martyrdom for the purpose of achieving the goal and establishing the religion of majestic Allah on earth.” This means that, the members of the group will have to sacrifice including death, and suffering for the beliefs of the group. This would include conflicts and with other countries. The group was very stricicect to these rules and regulations that needed to be followed and praised to be a part of the group. If they were not followed then punishment would need to be put in place. There were steps to become a member, and lessons to be taught. Lastly, a conversion to place to be a

The threat of global terrorism continues to rise with the total number of deaths reaching 32,685 in 2015, which is an 80 percent increase from 2014 (Global Index). With this said, terrorism remains a growing, and violent phenomenon that has dominated global debates. However, ‘terrorism’ remains a highly contested term; there is no global agreement on exactly what constitutes a terror act. An even more contested concept is whether to broaden the scope of terrorism to include non-state and state actors.
