As a young child, when you won something who did you run to first? Chances are it was your mom because you knew how proud she would be of you. Mothers are here to raise us and to teach us the principles of right and wrong. Because of mothers, we grow up to our full potential as adults and as fully rounded human beings. Mothers that tend to stay home are housewives and even though they do not get paid, their jobs are the hardest and yet most rewarding of all. While reading Willa Cather’s O Pioneers! One cannot but help to admire the independence of one particular mother that goes by the name of Mrs. Alexandra Bergson. “When the children were little she used to l0oad them all into the wagon, the baby in its crib, and go fishing herself.”(17-18).
