Accounting is the art of recording, summarizing, reporting, and analyzing financial transactions. Many accountants produce and analyze financial reports. A good accountant can develop a system that will capture all of the necessary details to make the business successful, weather it is managerial, projection, analysis, financial reporting and tax reports. In any business, doesn’t matter how big or small, financial statements are very crucial if achieving success is your ultimate goal. Accounting can be a really broad topic and this paper will focus more in tax accounting and the requirements tone must need to reach a good job position.
However, some employers prefer to hire applicants who have a master’s degree in accounting or in business administration with a focus in accounting. While there is no license, certification, or registration to be a regular accountant, a license is needed to be a Certified Public Accountant (CPA). To become a CPA, a person needs to pass a national exam and meet other state requirements. In almost all states, potential CPAs are now required to complete 150 semester hours of college work to be certified. Due to this high educational need, many schools offer a 5-year combined bachelor’s and master’s degree to meet the 150-hour requirement.
This degree will allow me to fully realize the potential I now already possess. My educational goal is to fully satisfy the course requirement for the Bachelor’s Science Degree in Business Management and Economics. Although I am not currently working in the field that I desire, I find that working as an Administrative Assistant enhances my career choices and allows me the ability to work toward advancing to the next level. Accounting is a great career that needs a good amount of education, a license, and has a vast amount of possibilities and temptations. An accountant’s education depends on which state he or she is trying to become an Certified Public Accountant in. In the State of New York, he or she needs one hundred fifty credit hours completed which comes out to be fives years of education (“Initial License,” 2011). The first four years you will be acquiring a Bachelor of Science In Accounting. At the University of Albany, this will teach you all about financial accounting, managerial accounting, marketing, taxation, and accounting information systems (“Bachelor of Science.” 2014).
This profession can be intellectually stimulating and rewarding. After learning about accounting, I cannot help but be interested and desire to work toward a degree in accountancy. In my studies, I have learned accountants require a plethora of qualities to be successful. And to mature from a student to a professional, I must resolve to strengthen my weaknesses. There is much I must learn and achieve, but a degree in accounting is well worth the time spent.
During my college classes I will apply for an internship being a CPA’s assistant to step into their shoes and see if this is what I really would like to do for the rest of my life. But if that should fail, accounting offers many more positions that just a CPA, such as Financial Managers, Sales Manager, Corporate Manager, and also a Supervisor. Achieving my master’s degree will also help me achieving my second goal of becoming a CPA by meeting the requirement of curriculum. As a former high school student, I now realize I was handed all the tools to succeed in college, but I could not leave the social aspect of school and focus on my studies. Many of Americas’ high school struggle to achieve their high school diploma and this one of the major problems of not being able to attain success. Most high school students do not realize what teachers are trying to do for them and simply ignore their teachings and advice.
