Why is the protestant reformation considered a significant event in the church history?

The Protestant reformation is an important event in church history. It was a protest by the people against the popes and leaders of the church. They wanted reform. The people found out that the church wasn’t telling them the truth about Jesus and his beliefs. It had a huge impact in Europe and across the world.

In Europe during the 16th century every town and city had a church or a cathedral. The majority of people were catholic. The leaders of the church gained a lot of power and misused it. The church was corrupt and abused their power by bribing people. The pope or priest would tell a person that if the person payed then they would pray for their sick relative or if they died, they would pray for them to go to heaven. If they not pay they told them that their relative would go to hell. People thought that thuds was the right thing to do. People were not able to read the bible as there were very few handwritten copies and they were all in latin. This meant that they believed everything their leaders told them.

The money that the churches were getting were not being use to it help people. They were using the money to build huge cathedrals and houses. An example of this is pope Leo the tenth who had received so much money that he could build St Peters Basilica in Rome.

The printing press was invented in Germany in 1453 by Johannes Guternburg. It was a significant part of the protestant reformation because it allowed the bible to be printed in many different languages so everyone was able to read it. ...resulted in the formation of many new religious followings and beliefs. Importantly it resulted in people having knowledge of religion that was previously only held by leaders in the Catholic church.
