Red Death The Prince tried many things to avoid the Red Death. He invited all of his close friends to his castle to protect them from the plague. Edgar Allen Poe illustrates that no matter what attempt Prince Prosper did, he couldn’t cheat death when it was his time. The Red Death was inevitable and deep down Prince Prosper knew it. He tried not to show his fear. “Prince Prospero was happy and dauntless and sagacious.” Instead of attempting to help his people, he decided to throw a party. “When his dominions were half depopulated, he summoned to his presence a thousand hale and light hearted friends from among the knights and dames of his court, and with these retired to the deep seclusion of one of his castellated abbeys.” Inside of Prince Prospero’s castle, there were seven different apartments which represented the stages of life. There was a blue room with a vividly blue window, a purple with a purple window, a green with a green window, orange with a orange window, and a black room with a deep blood like red window. “But in this chamber only, the color of the windows failed to correspond with the decorations. Prince Prospero tried to throw a party in order to ignore the cries of his dying kingdom. He did so by inviting his close friends to his castle and promising them their safety from the plague. In Prince Prospero castle he had seven different rooms which stood for the stages of life and a gigantic ebony clock in the black room which stood for amount of time left alive. There was also a mysterious guest who later revealed himself as the Red Death and took the life of everyone at the party including Prince Prospero.
