There are some that believe that what is seen with one’s eyes, is not actually real. The Matrix, a movie directed by the Wachowski brothers, touches upon this idea of the real world simply being an illusion. In the movie Neo, a computer hack, is exposed to the real world when he is taken from his life inside the Matrix, a computer generated reality. Once the truth has been exposed to Neo, he returns to the Matrix to fight the war against the machines in the hopes of revealing the truth to the rest of the world. The plot of the movie takes viewers through an intricate ride of philosophical, and religious symbolism. Forefront among these philosophical dilemmas is the parallel between the film and Plato’s Allegory of the Cave.
The movie’s major character, Neo, experiences a drastic change in his perception of reality just the same as Plato’s famous cave prisoner does when he escapes the cave.
