The Range of Nursing Careers

None of the issues happening to people today in every nation is as important as the prevention, treatment, and management of the conditions that cause health problems (Health Care Registered Nurses 2014). Nursing is the fastest-growing occupation in the US. California’s medical jobs are paying more because there are rarely any people going into the medicine field. Nursing is an occupation that was first started by Florence Nightingale that has helped many who are going into the field by saving many lives and caring for the ill.

Have you ever wondered where nursing came from? Effectively it all started with a woman named Florence Nightingale who is the primary founder of modern nursing also known as The lady with the lamp because of how she would take care of the wounded in the dark (Loschiavo, J. 2011). Florence made nursing official by establishing her own nursing school at St Thomas' Hospital in London. It was the official nursing school in the entire world and because of this the Nightingale Pledge in her honor is granted to new nurses (Florence Nightingale 2014). The annual International Nurse Day, which is celebrated on her birthday, is celebrated around the world on May 12th of each year. Florence Nightingale's most famous contribution came during the Crimean War, which became her central focus when reports got back to Britain about the horrific conditions for the wounded (Florence Nightingale 2014).

The range of nursing careers are almost as varied as the personalities of the nurses themselves, so no matter what kind of person you are, there is a place in nursing for you. It is not every day that you see a person just going into the field of medicine; it has to be something that you see yourself doing in the future. This ...
